Steel Horse

Review @ Onni

25 November 2008
One Steel Horsepower engine

I’ve never understood how people play metal music in hot countries like Spain, Italy, and Greece and so on. I can understand why sex-alcohol-rock’n’roll conception is popular in Northern countries: it’s a way to warm up, quite nice way (don’t you agree?).
But if you have the sun above all around the year, it should be really awful to wear leather and chains, I can’t imagine that! And still we have Dark Moor, Rhapsody and others out from there. And now let me introduce to you Steelhorse from Spain.

Have you already guessed what they play? Right, it’s heavy metal! Immortal nice old heavy metal. And it starts right in the name of the band.
The band itself is quite young: it exists just couple of years, but they have this EP “Raise Your Fist” already. 4 hot Spanish men playing steel hymns and warming up Europe. Let’s listen and take some piece of their energy.
Steel Horse doesn’t try to discover America again, they are playing in veins of classic bands, so sometimes you can ask: well, and where is here Steelhorse itself? Do they show us that Iron Maiden is not dead? But we know that already. Show us better that Steelhorse is alive! These four Spanish are good musicians, although recording and production could be better, but we remember it’s just a demo, and hope album will be on another level, because obviously they can do it.
They make their songs surprisingly not too pathetic, funny nor naive (as many heavy and power metal bands do), though we can hear here everything: fire, hell, dreams, time, future and the past, paradise, Wild Power and more. It sounds almost as it should be: rhythmic, energetic, driving, with nice solos, you can hear the hot sun and imagine some open air festival with a lot of beer, headbanging and beer again. But maybe this music is not enough catchy, it lacks something, maybe some better vocal lines.

I always say that such music is pretty nice on the road: you’re never too deep into the music to forget that you’re driving a car.
So, that is metal machine from Spain with one steel horsepower engine, powerful enough to warm you up.

Thanks to Steel Horse for EP
