Psycho,
Psycho for short, is back! After the great release of
Insepulto’s debut, Robert decided to go old-school all the way with his latest addition to the label’s roster:
Mort Douce.
Hailing from the town of P?ock in Poland,
North of Warsaw,
Mort Douce are a young band formed in 2010 and which just released their very first demo
Promo 2013 on both
Psycho and Plague Tapes Records. This demo only has two tracks which serve as appetizers for the forthcoming release of a MCD entitled The Valley of
Blood and
Death. As far as I can tell, it’s already sold out even though I managed to secure a copy… Of course, usually 50 copies do not last long.
Why sign a demo in the first place? I guess that Robert, the founder of WM
Psycho, playing the bass guitar himself in
Mort Douce probably motivated that choice! What should you expect then from this new Polish act?
Vader impressions?
Azarath worship?
Throneum mimicry? None of that, my dear Sir.
Mort Douce, which in French would mean “Sweet
Death”, play actually good ole
Death Metal the Swedish way. A crossover in between the sounds of early Grave and
Unleashed. The latter being a rather blatant analogy with both production and vocals really close to those of, respectively, Shadows in the Deep and Johnny Hedlund’s. The two songs are rather straightforward and once you’ve written it’s close in style to Grave and
Unleashed there’s no much more that can be added. Except maybe that
Mort Douce also have some great guitar leads which, even with all those revivalist bands copying the Swedish
Death Metal sound, tend to disappear over time.
The MCD The Valley of
Blood and
Death should come any time soon and it will be a good test to see what this band is capable of. With most tapes of this demo already sold out, you probably won’t have much choice anyway than to wait for it to be released.
