After listening to
Demiricous' first album all the way through, I'm convinced that they are the future of Death
Metal, it's a more "modernized" version of the old school bands such as
Slayer,
Sepultura, and
Morbid Angel, and can be heard in other bands such as
Witchery,
Skeletonwitch, and Lamb of
God (to a lesser extent).
Most of the songs on One (hellbound) bring back feelings as if I'm listening to
Slayer's classic (if not the most influential album of all time)
Reign in
Blood, or Seasons in the
Abyss, with the Vocal
Ferocity of
Possessed.
Demiricous have taken pointers from only the best in Death and Thrash
Metal and this album is the result of it, "One" is almost like a collection of the past 30 years in
Extreme metal, insane, high-pitched, Sporatic guitar solos that bear a resemblance to "Raining blood" or "hell awaits", mixed in with chugging, mosh-inducing riffs in every song.
It's hard for me to pick my favorite song out of this 14 track non-stop thrash masterpiece, but I'd have to say that "To Serve is to
Destroy", and "I am weapon" are amongst my favorites.
Along with their amazing musical skills, the band members have also created several home-made videos of themselves doing Jackass-style stunts, which only add to the "coolness" of the band's persona.
This album has definantly been One of my favorites I've heard all year (even though it was released several years back), it's nice to know that there are still some US bands that haven't sold out, even though
Demiricous is signed to the somewhat Trendy record label
Metal Blade (though not all of the bands under their label have the -core plague that sweeps the
North American
Continent) they have maintined their underground Credibility as One of the few US Death
Metal bands that have repeatedly said "fuck you" to the pop-deathcore acts that have undermined the integrity of the Death metal scene in recent years.
In case you haven't heard of these guys yet, make sure to pick up their first album if you're a fan of 80's and early 90's era
Slayer. you will not be disappointed.
