This isn't exactly a new album by any standards, but it is an underrated early Death/Speed metal classic. As far as Mexican Death metal goes, most people just think of
Brujeria, or maybe
Asesino, but
Transmetal has been credited with being the godfather of the metal scene in Mexico.
This 1988 classic album has some of
Transmetal's best material on it (along with their
1994 EP entitled "
Desear un Funeral"), and like most bands that never got the appreciation they deserve, many of the songs on this cd can be heard on their later albums too, however,
Muerto en la Cruz is still an amazing, and underrated album.
Though
Transmetal later moved towards more of a Death metal vocal style, the vocals on this album have more of a rough thrash sound to them, very similar to
Venom, or
Celtic Frost. and the production value is pretty good considering that they're a mexican metal band, and probably didn't have acsess to the latest sound equipment back then (the video that i've attached to this review looks like it was shot in the mid-70's).
As far as the songs go, they're all great, but my favorite tracks are Rostro
Maligno,
Muerto en la Cruz, and La Horca they also do a great cover a song called
Killers by the band
Killers (not the shitty pop group the killers, the French thrash band). I speak very little spanish, and can't decipher most of the songs, and there is no english translation in the album's booklet either, so i'm shit out of luck on translations of these songs.
If you like underrated old school Death/Thrash
Metal, this album is definantly for you, even though i can't understand most of the lyrics, this is still a great album, and definantly worth the 12.95 on
Amazon. I wouldn't try lookin for this release at your local Music store, odds are that they've never even heard of this band.
