With -Made in the USA-
Sex Machineguns deliver a perfect album featuring twelve great songs.
Lead singer
Anchang has an awesome clear voice but opts for a rougher more shouty style on rabble rousing anthems such as opening track "Saboten Kyouda"i and "
Mama San Volley" which suits these songs perfectly. Most of the tracks rattle along at like a runaway freight train with a notable example being "Aijin 28", a full tilt metal classic which boasts a gloriously catchy chorus… but the band slow things down occasionally with tracks like "Mr
Journey", which is driven by a great pounding riff and the more melodic but still brilliant "Reach For The Sky" (which features some beautiful guitar work).
The standout track however has to be "
Zero",in which a breathtakingly fast verse structure gives way to a slow melodic chorus, which has an almost Mexican feel to it. It's extraordiarily well excecuted and the way the slow intricate solo picks up pace with the rest of the song is a stroke of genius.
Apart from the odd English phrase such as "Reach for the sky" and "hamburger greasy" all the vocals are sung in Japanese, but don't let that put you off as this album is a fine example of heavy metal at it's best.
