Tuonenpolku

Review @ Tapani1979

04 January 2008
Tuonenpolku is band from Finland that tales it's inspiration mainly from the old school scene. One can definetly hear old time pure rawness on the sounds. This is positive thing on these days of mainstreme bands.

"Kärsijä" EP was released on Finlands independence day on 6.12.2007. EPs backbone are clearly riffs that make you wana wave your neck. These riffs remind me off those Black Sabbath days. Riffs are mixed with raw death/black metal influenced sounds. This is the strength of this album. Music sounds overwhelming. Guitars are quite unique sounding with high power. It is a thing that can annoy some but I seem to like this fresh take on music. Bassguitars are there to everyone to hear and there are few interesting solos too. Drummer makes good solid work with the artillery. Vocals are interestingly at same level with music. This is a good choice and brings music on the level that it deserves. Yet again, some might think it's a bad thing. My personal favourite is the track named "Revenge of the Beast".

The songs are written in english and finnish. "Kärsijäs" first two songs are band national language (finnish) and rest two are in english. The songs tell tales of war, revenge and horror as they are said on the bands flyers. CD comes with bonus material that icludes JPG format of inluental pictures, Llyrics are on txt format and music is also on MP3 format to get them easily on your computer. On the special limitied editon there is 9mm bullet with Tuonenpolkus "T" logo.

Mostly Tuonenpolku delivers all that is set to do. You can't go wrong with this kind of old school material! Influences from Barathrum, Hellhammer and Black Sabbath are clearly there. Tuonenpolku has taken them and created something new in this old genre.

**** out of *****
