APOPHIS? Never heard of before… From time to time I try out bands which are completely unfamiliar to me, so I can listen without prejudices or expectations. What should I say? I am surprised by these guys performing Death Metal and nothing else – but with a certain uniqueness to make the music sound a little bit different to others. Since 1989 they are on the mission to spread Death Metal in the underground and maybe some time they can manage to attract more attention. I Am Your Blindness is the fourth output or, in more suitable words, an amusing and firm, only half of an hour lasting, varying musical interpretation.
Sometimes the songs are thrashed in up-scaled mid tempo, but the melodies are omnipresent and APOPHIS slow down from time to time to give more space to the atmosphere in music. Just listen to Welcome To My World, which is quite unspectacular in the beginning, but my interest to another listening is arisen by canny speed variations during the song… and behold, under the rough surface a virtuoso kernel is slumbering surprising with breaks and innovative rhythm- and guitar work. Especially the longest track with the very friendly title That’s Why I Killed You comes out to be a real cool neck breaker in abraded speed loosened up by mid tempo outbreaks. This impression lasts the whole playtime long and before boredom gets its chance, the album is over too early. This CD is for the listeners who don’t attach importance to non-stop blast beats, but prefer aggressive and highly melodious music. This target group will embosom some songs, but a few minutes more would not have done damage to I Am Your Blindness
