Cold Hand Of Malice

Review @ miniradman

26 October 2010
For the Cause of Ruin is Cold Hand Of Malice’s debut EP and it is of the Heavy Thrash genre. Although it is classed as Heavy Thrash this EP also has some Metalcore elements as well. This album was released in October 2009.

This EP is classed as Heavy Thrash but it also has some Metalcore elements such as clean vocals, tune and a few but subtle breakdowns. This band is originally from Cairns Australia and is fairly unknown to people outside of Australia. I think that Cold Hand Of Malice has the potential of being know World Wide. This EP has 8 tracks and they are all are of decent length other than the intro and outro.

This album is actually very good coming from an unknown place. This EP is full of great stuff; it has everything that someone would expect from a good Thrash/Metalcore album (in this case an EP). It has solos, awesome screaming/clean vocals, the odd breakdown and just sounds awesome in general. They also can play at a variety of speeds from slow to fast. I also have never heard anyone scream like this before in any other band, but I like it (Just listen to it!). All of the songs on this EP are totally worth listening to. There is a solo in most of the songs and them most heaviest breakdown is in the song Heaven’s Fire. My favourite song in this EP would have to be the song Drop The Gates. It has a great tune to it, some kind of atmosphere and a solo. Also If you listen carefully you may notice a few pig squeals.

Although this isn’t a bad debut EP, it is not perfect. The recording quality is not that good, but I understand that this is Self Released and is a debut EP so I understand. Also the song Crumble is a very boring song but at least there is a decent solo in it. But the worst thing about this EP is that at the end of the song Weight Of Your War there is a very high pitched sound that hurts your ears (in a bad way) and it seems to last a very long time.

Overall this a very well executed self released debut EP and I cannot wait for their Album Debut. They have already made a name for themselves by going on tour with the Amity Affliction so they are on the rise and I would watch out for them if I were you. I recommend this EP to anyone who likes Thrash Metal, Metalcore and even some Deathcore lovers. I also recommend the song Drop The Gates to just get a feel of what this band is like, because not many people have heard of Cold Hand Of Malice or actually heard them. I give this a 17/20.
