Here is the third full-length album of this Russian heavy metal band – third during just five years, and don’t forget that they released also a single!
But such speed doesn’t affect on quality of the work. I’d said on the contrary, every year
Teatr Teney becomes more interesting, more professional, more awesome band.
All the songs on “Capoeira” are well done, well produced, well recorded; booklet is bright, rich, colorific (although maybe musicians’ eyes are underlined too much…). Five years ago nobody could imagine that the band who released “
Teatr Teney” album would release something like “Capoeira”. “
Teatr Teney” was quite straight and simple classic heavy metal with attempts to do something more interesting. “The
Beast” was a big step forward, with better songwriting, but it still lacked something. “Capoeira” is completely different story.
It’s obvious that musicians listened to different bands, different styles of metal music, and do they improved own music really much. They improved their techniques, so now nobody would deny that they are really good masters of their instruments. They can operate with complicated rhythms and fast riffs, they did it already on “The
Beast” album, but now they do it better.
Teatr Teney made its music harder, heavier, added some thrash metal, alternative, keyboards, more catchy melodies, different vocals. Songwriting is much better, songs are more interesting, more drive, more powerful.
Shining example is the third song on CD “
Two Wings” (“2 Kryla”): catchy melody, amazing keyboard line, powerful guitars and drums. It’s one of the best songs, but many others aren’t worse: “Creator of Dreams” has perfect rhythmical pattern, and the opening “
Road of All
Winds”, following “Asmodej” and others can also show you some interesting moments and brilliant work.
So, there were successes of the band. But sadly there are also minuses.
Clean vocal sometimes doesn’t match well with this modern technical crisp metal.
And some screams won’t save the situation. Sometimes this excellent technique lacks catchy melodies.
Ballad “I’ve Closed Your
Eyes” disappoints with its insincerity, affectation, false, it’s just boring.
And certain wonder I should express towards the lyrics: they can’t be marked even with “good”.
Sometimes it looks like the band has a lot of musical ideas, but musicians have nothing to say in words, so they try to write at least something, without any particular inspiration. I don’t know whether it is so in reality, but texts are simply boring and uninteresting, except few moments.
So after all, we have solid strong album, let’s hope that the band will work further and soon we’ll hear really gorgeous Russian metal.
