A Bullet For Pretty Boy

Review @ CLucker666

24 December 2011

generally average metalcore

A Bullet For Pretty Boy is listed as a Post-Hardcore band, but I would definitely consider them a lot more metalcore. They have an average sound to them, but it is not anything spectacular.

First I will start off with the vocals. Most of the screams are mid pitched screams, that will get old after a while. I am not a huge metalcore fan, but I have heard plenty of other metalcore vocalists do it a lot better than this guy. Every now and then he will throw a low and high pitch scream in. It is not bad but it just does not stand out to me. The singing is above average, his voice is not way too high and his sort of a mid pitched sound to it that I liked and thought fit real well.

The most interesting part of the album is probably the synth in the background, I feel as if it would be an extremely boring album without it. I am pretty sure about that. Most bands in the genre are doing this but I think these guys do it well. I have definitely heard worse from bands like Attack Attack!, Bring Me The Horizon, etc.

The guitarists come up with a few creative riffs that actually caught my attention. I think they could have been a lot more creative with the breakdowns. The breakdowns are about as generic as it gets. They basically strum about two or three times wait a second then strum and repeat. It got very boring, very quick. I know that's how most metalcore breakdowns are but these just did not do it at all for me.

Overall, the album is not bad but I would not call it good. The name mediocre fits perfect. I most likely want bother this album with many more listens. For a starting EP, it was not the worst I have ever heard but their newest release is much better. I rated this a 12/20.
