Enigmatick says : If that's how you see it, cool. Point Still Remains, DMP's stance of Venom and Possessed is totally wrong, regardless of lyrical theme. I honestly am not sure how much music she's actually LISTENED to- I mean, she's even younger than I am, and all she seems to do on here is namedrop a bunch of Random bands without having any sort of opinion on them other than the obligatory "they're good" or "they're bad". Seems like the type who spam-downloads every album she sees just so she can say she's "heard them" for some sort of imaginary metal street-cred.
I could be totally off with that assumption but I definitely get that vibe from her.

It seems funny to be talking about a person on a thread you know they'll read again.
Buuuut what you mentioned before is probably 'cause she's fairly new to the thread, and when I was new I knew a lot about metal, but when I came here there was a lot people where talking about that I didn't know of (still is sorta that way) and there was a lot to learn. I guess she's trying to get a foothold into the metal she didn't know before.

PS: Ghost may be the band that saves metal.

Okay Enigmatick, what defines Black Thrash to you?0

Can I answer this too?
We probably have different opinions of it, anyway.
Think of thrash and Black Metal put together.
The poopy quality of Black Metal along with the screeching raw vocals and dark, primal atmosphere, mixed with the song structure and composition of thrash. You'll also find more solos in black thrash than you will in typical Black Metal, and the vocals usually hit a more 'raspy snarl' thingy than a full on scream. Songs are usually hard hitting, agressive, and fairly short (in the 2-4 minute range. The only song I can think of that's black thrash that's longer than that is Hellhammer's Triumph of Death, and that there is a Masterpiece). The riffs typically sort of alternate between the thrashy/catchy hooks of Thrash Metal and the tremolo picked madness of black metal.
More than likely I'm leaving something out but I think that's a fair defenition.

Infinity, that is an excellent definition. btw, in my opinion lyrics theme do not determine the genre, music does.

I think I said that same thing on the previous page 0
I was just sayin' that the lyrics are part of the genre, but if another genre has satanic themes, that doesn't instantly mean it's black. It just has the typical themes of black metal.

Are the songs I posed black thrash?

Infinity's definition works for me. I'd say Abominator is, though it's probably debatable- haven't heard a note of their music until now so I can't be too sure. Bestial Warlust are one of the progenitors of the ambiguous war metal genre. Debatable, again, but I don't see them as full on black thrash.

The song that defines black thrash to me is (aptly titled) Black Thrash Assault by Witchaven. Mixes the similar, yet not totally identical forms of ferocity on both black and thrash as well as alternating between frenzied riffs and midpaced grooves. It takes a lot of influence from both black and Thrash Metal without sounding like a direct derivation of either of them.

That's all well and good, but nobody should talk about bands they don't really have an opinion on (even if it's just a namedrop), it just makes you look like a bumbling idiot. People should really resarch music more throughly and develop a more well-rounded and personal opinion of the genre before they go discussing stuff on forums. Leave the one-liners and namedroppings for chatrooms.

I wouldn't go THAT Far with Ghost (if there's any one band that's single-handedly keeping the testicles in metal it's The Gates Of Slumber) but still, very very good. Fuck my ride crapping out on me for MDF, I really wanted to see them live

For me... The forums are my research.

This place is like a Metal school to me. Understand? I'm still learning 0
(BTW a real metal school would be awesome )

Dude, we're ALL still learning about metal. ESPECIALLY me, I'm fucking 15 for chrissakes, I'm not gonna bullshit myself into thinking I'm some sort of pantheon of ultimate metal knowledge, I know I'm not, Hell, I've still got much to learn about metal myself. I just think it's better to go research on your own and form your own personal opinion on the bands, rather than have opinions spoonfed to you on forums when you're starting out, because there's always going to be a bit of bias that way. It's just so much better for your understanding and perception of the genre and the fact that's it's slightly more difficult than just blindly asking for recs just makes it all the more fun.

Mate, there is always people here to learn and there is Nothing worse than that kid in class that likes to rub his knowledge is someone elses face and doesn't even tell him. And even worse is when that person believes everyone else is a dumbass for not knowing. Yeah I know I might be a little bit of a parasite when it comes to learning metal. But c'mon, help a fella out.

Besides, like you have said before, there is a shitload of false info on the internet (yeah SoM is a good example) at least when I get info from you or InfinityZero or anyone for that matter I know the odds of it being correct is fairly high because you have "experience". Yeah, I try and do my own research, only to come here and being told it's all wrong...

Besides, I think it's better for me to come here after some research for two reasons. Because, If i'm wrong, someone will pick up on it and I'll be corrected and it will spark disscussion  (which is the whole purpose of this forum being here).

So just calm Down mate, yeah I know you might not exactly the Lord Of Metal but you sure know your shit, why not share it to people who are willing to learn?0

It could all just boil Down to your original sources not being too reliable. Just do a little bit of digging and you'll find sites much more specific to exactly what you want/need as Far as metal-related research goes.
