why? alcohol and drugs are great. Unless they're like 13, that's pretty fucked up.

Of course, and you can fit in a group too. And who takes the most and brags first about it is the coolest!

I'm taking DMP's point here; I can totally sympathize with friends going all alcohol-n'-weed on me for bad reasons and all handling the drugs badly, as something of part of being a clique or whatever. I don't mind being friends that do that sort of thing (unless they're close enough that I can't help but feel concerned--luckily I haven't been that close to anyone in a long time), as long as they keep it away from me and don't get wasted around me, because it makes me extremely uncomfortable.
The thing is, as a lot of my friends got in with the Stoner crowd, they sorta drifted away from me. I hope that doesn't happen to you, DMP.

You could not pay me enough money to even go near alcohol or drugs. The last thing I need is permanent brain damage or memory loss.
I could honestly care less about not being in a clique or whatever, or even partaking in stuff like that to be in one.
And a majority of my friends smoke weed, or inhale household chemicals, like keyboard dusters. Not to mention a friend of mine drinks Tequila like it's water, and my uncles are alcoholics.
My grandmother even died of a meth overdose.
And I haven't lost friends because of the drugs or alcohol at all. More like they wanna get their friends high or whatever.

@Enig: Yeah, they're fun if you wanna fuck up your life. Regardless of your age. ...No offense.

Jesus, get your friends off the cleaner.
One wrong chemical and they could wind up comatose. I thought from your earlier post you were saying that your friends were just on weed, which is essentially harmless unless its laced with TAR or PCP (except for the damage it does to your lungs).
Not to mention forcing it on you, which is something I cannot tolerate. If I'm, say, talking to some dude at a metal concert and he offers me weed, I'll politely say no thanks, but when it's a friend who knows you don't like drugs, it gets really irritating really fast, especially when they pull a bunch of stuff out of their ass about how everything is better when you're high.
Hope that it's a phase and try to stay friends, but don't let them take anything too Far and help them when they need it.

About general drug use, DMP, I don't take E as the type of person who is dependant on weed. Some people can use weed completely when they want to rather than an obligation to dependancy and are controlled about it.
In my experience with others, though, a lot of people ACT like they can control how much they do it but after a while they lose that control.
...As for me, I really don't see the point in doing it, just like I don't see the point in altering your conscious state. Plus, I like spending my money on patches and vinyls and CDs and movies.

I Wish I could. It's not like I can stop them from doing what they do. It's their life :/ Back in Seventh Grade some of my friends would sniff permanent markers and expo markers and get high. By fourth period they could barely hold their heads up.
And the guy who said he was gonna get me and my friends high one day completely Forgot about it (and us). He meant weed, not keyboard dusters.
And I guess the problem with kids my age and drugs is that they think they can stop using anytime.
I've had friends on Facebook upload pics of their bongs and whatnot. And I don't even hang out with them on a daily basis. They're just friends i hung out with at school. And once a dude in my class came in with Red eyes, and everyone's been saying he was high, especially since he was coughing.

Seventh grade? Damn.
That's nuts.
Although it's good you don't feel like you need to do what they do. But if they've been doing this since 7th Grade, it doesn't sound like they're planning on stopping anytime soon.
Don't worry though--I'm in 11th Grade, going into 12th after this summer, and I still know people who never have or never would try drugs. There're always people like that.

Not only drugs, booze are also soo stupidly popular. Just or the sake of being drunk. I like a glass of wine or beer, but just because it tastes nice or fits with the atmosphere of festivals/gigs. I've never been drunk, and not planning too.
Younsters seek more and more alternative drugs, since regular drugs are costly. They try with marker fluid, booze, lighter gas etc. But this is even more dangerous for the health since it is easy to access and almost equally harmful like hardrugs

Yeah, if you don't have at least a semi-proffessional understanding of effects of chemicals on the body, experimental high-seeking could lead to death in one sniff.

You know, I think I have proof about the whole thing about kids with fairly loose (but not doormat) parents never turn to that kinda thing, because although my parents have sense and aren't pushovers, both of them have said that I can smoke weed if I want to, but the conditions are not to do it at home and not to do it too much. They think I have enough sense that I'd use them casually.
...Yet I've never even felt the urge to try them. Weird.
