No. NOOOOOO.
FUCKING NO.
I can't understand why you don't even know who he is--how could you have spent over a year into metal not knowing who Ronnie James Dio is? And HE DIED RECENTLY. That news was all over the place.

Ronny James Dio was the oldest heavy metalist ever, and also voted the best Heavy Metal vocalist of all time. He popularized the "m/" devil horns into the circle of metal. He was in some great bands:

Elf
Black Sabbath
Dio
Rainbow
Heaven and Hell

Okay. I still cannot comprehend how you don't know who he is. If metal was a religion, he'd be the God.

So you're saying that... he had a Voice of an angel?

Like I said many many times before, I don't know much about the history of metal or "when did that person leave that band to go here" and all that kind of talk. I just simply listen to the music

Okay yeah sure, I might know a few things here and there but thats it 0

I don't listen to metal for its history either, but Dio is just so common knowledge, like Jimi Hendrix or Black Sabbath or Metallica. Except I think that Dio is also one of the most accomplished metalists--he's been in the most significant bands and has been one of metal's biggest influencing factors. And I'm pretty sure the forums were packed with metalfans bawling their eyes out the day he died. I know I was one of them.

Okay, miniradman, go listen to the song Rainbow in the Dark for me. His Voice is so fucking awesome in that song.

From what I've heard (i haven't seen it) A Headbangers Journey is filled with inaccuracies, so I wouldn't use it as some kind of metallic gospel.

You really should brush up on your history. The music's so much better to listen to when you can apply a greater knowledge of the nuances of the genre as a whole to it.

Still, Dio brought the horns to us. His musical career spans over half a century. I don't understand how you haven't even heard of him in passing. How long have you been into metal exactly?

Well, I wouldn't say Headbanger's Journey is full of inaccuracies, but it does glaze over some of the stuff and leave out details. Then again, metal is so VAST it's hard to get into the deep stuff. My only complaints is that the fans Sam Dunn interviews who're into metal are (for the most part) mindless posers. Like, there's this 14 year old goth chick with a collar on her neck w/ studs on it who I found really annoying... and then there's the Varg Vikernes thing. They basically say HOSHIT GUYS HE'S SCARY, without really getting into his motivations or even the fact that the didn't do them out of satanic intent.

Oh, and on the back of the DVD case they say that the film interviews the heaviest metal bands such as Slipknot. Which kinda makes me throw up in my mouth a little.
Still a great documentary though.

-John Arch (Fates Warning, also did demo and rehersal work with Dream Theater - he was way too fucking good for that band). Absolutely one of the greatest singers of all time. His Voice is maybe comparable to Bruce Dickenson's, but with a slightly more nasal tone. Arch's vocal work was a defining part of early Fates Warning, because his vocal lines were an entirely different instrument that actually weaved throughout the music, counterpointing the riffwork in the best way possible. An absolutely monumental singer, really.
