Okay I'll sort this out - My opinions on the bands so far:

Gigan = Gorguts' schizophrenic brother (in the good way)

Dark Millenium = Atmospheric and awesome

Arghoslent = I Hate the racism, but the amazing instrumentation makes up for it

Adramelech = Old School!!!!!!

Disembowelment = This is... whoa... by the sound of these guys, they probably were a major influence for Evoken.

Thanks Enig.

anybody listened to Dawn of Demise?
i'm listening to their album Hate Takes its form right now, and it sounds pretty great (though its hard to find a band from the netherlands that doesn't sound completly awesome)

Gave 'em a quick look after I read your post, and they're pretty ass. Modern Death Metal in general doesn't interest me unless a band throws something fresh into the mix- and these guys didn't.

Oh, and @refractorhead: Demigod and The Apostasy weren't bad albums, they just had terrible production. Seriously, fuck Century Media in its microscopic dickhole. They're kind of like King Midas except everything THEY touch turns to shit.
I get it.  OK, I agree there.

Nice list Enigmatick, but come on, Bestial Warlust and Archgoat? That's Black Metal, no matter how the vocals may sound. Anyway, it's just me complaining.

As for Nunslaughter, it is sometimes great but unfortunately sometimes pretty boring and generic.

I'm not going to complain about a few bands missing here and there. I don't like lists that much anyway. But... haha, no. NO.

Thanks for taking the time to "explain" and give those tiny descriptions. I encourage everyone doing the same from now on instead of writing Down witless and Brainless lists. This is not last.fm.

Yeah, I was kinda hesitant about including BW and Archgoat for that very reason. I figured they had enough Death Metal in their sound so that they wouldn't seem TOO out of place, but they're awesome so it's ok

I know the list is Far from complete, there's a lot of bands I missed myself, just by looking at it. I can see I Forgot Demigod, Mithras, Possessed and Nihilist, just to name a few. Maybe I'll go back and edit it sometime.

What are a few of the bands you would have added on there, out of curiosity?

Monday 31 January 2011 - 18:01:44
You got me started!

I could add:

Acrostichon: excellent female fronted DM from Holland, old fucking school

Afflicted: Sunlight Studios sound, close to Entombed but they have that hippie thing in them. Makes for something interesting.

The Arson Project: Death grind that kills. Swedish, got some Nasum feeling.

Atrocity: sure they play shit now, but they have two very solid if not great first records.

Banished from Inferno: DM with a few melodic traces and excellent vocalist Rogga from... well he plays in too many bands...

Bloody Sign: excellent DM close to Portal but not as Fucked Up, some blackish hints too. French band, unfortunately they split up recently.

Carbonized: DM with a crusty feel. With members from Therion (would you believe it! note: Therion first two records were pretty good DM, not that anyone remembers...) and Entombed.

Cardiac Arrest: OSDM with a freaking groove. A must check for every OSDM aficionado. Kinda a la BT.

Crypticus: OSDM from Razorback, excellent, there's a drum machine but Nothing that Ruins the musical experience. Both albums are Killer and build as much on Brutality as on atmospheres.

Dead Infection: it's more goregrind than DM but they're on par with Carcass gory stuff. Sick.

Decrepitaph: fantastic DM from Texas, sounds like early Asphyx and Obituary. Debut Condemned Cathedral is a freaking must.

And I'll stop with this one band that's Criminal to forget: Dead Congregation. Mix of Incantation/Immolation but man, they may have gotten it better than the two aforementioned. Not possible...? Try to listen to "Teeth into Red" on youtube...

If I got you interested, I'll try to add a few more tomorrow or some time later.

edit 2:

Okay from E...

Earth - I know you guys are going to say, man, it's Drone, he's lost it. Well... There's this DM band called Earth from Australia. Except it's got more melody in it than most aussie bands. Much Closer to Nocturnus.

Embrionic Death - Very old and inactive band from the US. They released only demos. I own Regurgitate the Dead which is freaking killer. Mix between Florida DM and Carcass.

Encoffination - project that comprises Decrepitaph's Mastermind and a member of Father Befouled. Extremely suffocating, Death Metal with many doomy aspects. Must have for Asphyx lovers.

Engorged - Death Grind coupled with Speed Metal. Kinda like Exhumed on a funnier side but extremely powerful. Beer drinking DM.

Fondlecorpse - Dutch DM that loves Gremlins. Yep, you read that well. Cheesy? Maybe. Killing groove? You bet.

Furbowl - Obscure DM from Sweden, almost Death n Roll. Only the debut is worth checking. Was produced by Ammott before he turned gay.

Goratory - Brutal DM with a solid groove. Forget the gory titles, because it's only Killer DM.

Gruesome Stuff Relish - Death Grind on par with Haemorraghe and Carcass. Love for movie sample that pay tribute to the gods of gore: Impetigo.

Hooded Menace - It's more Doom Death than pure DM, per se. But it's got that groovy thing to it most likely because they mix trad doom music with DM vocals. With Lasse from old glories (not deserved but well...) Phlegethon.

Horrific - You thought you knew what Death n Roll meant, right? Well, you didn't.

Okay fine. Though I kind of feel insulted by the Last.fm remark

Not alphabetical order (too Lazy):

Carnage : Good 'ol Swedish death metal. Not much to say Beyond that.

Phlebotomized : Old school Brutal death with an epic atmosphere and constant violin. Listen to Immense, Intense, Suspense.

Necrosanct : Amazing production, unrelenting guitars, drumming from hell. Recommendations? Every one of their albums are legendary.

Mitochondrion : Take the strange Death Metal elements of Portal and Impetuous Ritual, put it in a blender with some Necrophagist and dark ambient. Et voilà! You have Mitochondrion!

Stargazer : More Death Metal than black metal. Great atmosphere. It seems the strangest of Death Metal comes from Australia these days.

Traumatic Voyage : Very doomy, yet brutal. Freakish, demonic screams and growls throughout. For the more Death Metal side, go for the first two or three albums. The rest are a little more doomy.

As Light Dies : Kind of along the lines of Phlebotomized, but newer and has gothic elements.

Azure Emote : This is the result of taking industrial and adding it to progressive death. Strange vocals with technical guitars and Random electronic beats.

Luciferion : Take Fleshgod Apocalypse and up the atmosphere x3. Technically they only have one album because their second album is pretty much a remake of their first.

The Monolith Deathcult : Trivmvirate is among the best Death Metal albums to exist. Electronic ambient stuff to enhance the atmosphere, truly amazing lyrics and ridiculous grooves.

Necronomichrist : First album was horrible. Then somehow they came back and released an EP last year. Suprisingly, it wasn't bad... it was fucking amazing. Extremely underrated progressive death metal. Warning, does contain a lot of guitar wankery.

Weeping Birth : You couldn't ask for something more insane. Regardless of the point that the the drums are programmed (they still sound good), this is the most Brutal thing ever. Jumping between shrieks and growls with insanely fast guitar and crushing bass in the background, this is amazing. Still don't think this is Brutal by the description? Listen to Totalitarian Grievance.

Yyrkoon : Very high quality thrash/death from France. Need I say more?

Vortech : Industrial death at it's best. When I say unrelenting instruments and vocals, I mean it seriously.

Purtenance : Groovy, doomy, old school death metal.

Scarab : Bursting out of nowhere, there guys are brutal. Coming from Egypt, these guys are a real gem in death metal.

And it seems the rest has been said.

No need. I use last.fm myself. It's just it's better to put on some description than putting up a list for the sake of a list. Everyone can do that.

Nice list too. It's always a pleasure to see Carnage in here. The re-release of Dark Recollections with the demos was just killer. Even the bit of history in the leaflet. Some other bands I need to check. Thanks.

Okay, it's my turn now. The bands are listed in Random order

Debuachery : Simple and generic, but I still like it. Apparently this band doesn't take itself to serious, and they like to cover other songs. They can be funny sometimes, only thing is that their albums sound almost all the same.

Avulsed : Simply one of my favorite bands of all times. Really love their guitar work, they have some pretty well made riffs ('Pale Red Blood', 'Let Me Taste Your Flesh', Stabwound Orgasm' etc). I also like the singers growling, I don't know why, but it just sounds so good to me. I also like their artworks, not because they are gory or something, but because they seem "beautiful" to me. They kinda fit the concept of the album, especially the last one. Some of their Spanish songs also make them more exotic.

Putrid Pile : Although he uses a drum machine, he surely is one of the most Brutal bands I've heard. He has one of the most unique voices in Death Metal in my opinion, and the fact that he wears glasses makes him even more awesome.

Mental Demise : Good Ukrainian Death Metal. They organized the Metal Heads Mission fest in Ukraine. Nice, fast, and gory, that's how I like my Death Metal. Slavs sure are aggressive.

Abysmal Torment : Death Metal from Malta. Brutal as fuck, how could you expect such a band coming from a country like Malta?

Defloration : I found them while searching for some bands from Germany. Although Nothing really special, they are still good.

Ultra Vomit : How can someone take this band serious? They just cover other popular songs, and play them in Death Metal style, such as 'I Like to Vomit'. Those covers are really hilarious.

Devourment : Slam Death in its purest. They have everything a Slam band has to have, heavily Down tuned guitars, Pig growls, and basically the same riff in an entire song.

Scarab : From Egypt. They actually do everything Nile does, just way better, and more brutal. I recommend them.

Angel of Disease : They have some pretty nice melodies, and song structures. I also like their guitar work.

Meatknife : I don't listen to Porn/Goregrind, because it's Brutal, or because of it's musical quality, I manly listen to it for entertainment. This band is a good example for this. They have funny song titles, and artworks, and their music is also pretty simple

2 Minuta Dreka : Same with them. I don't know why I like them so much, they are just a generic Porngrind band, but I still find them somewhat special.

Formless Terror : This is my favorite band from my country. They sure have potential, and a great sound. I hope I can spread the word here.

Embryotomy : Also from my country. They are somewhat the brother band of Formless Terror. Kinda awesome, and just straight Death Metal

Belphegor : Dunno if they count here, but what the heck. They play a fantastic mix of Death and Black Metal, just gotta love their sound, although the singer sometimes can be annoying. And the lyrics are sick.

Unaussprechlichen Kulten: Chilian Brutal Death. They have a special sound for a Brutal Death band, and that their lyrics are based on the Cthulhu Mythos makes them even more attractive to me.

Bolt Thrower : One of my first Death Metal bands, I liked them since the first second I heard them. Just great Old school stuff, I never get tired of them.

Portal : Got into them through Mercenarion. Really, one of the strangest bands I have ever heard. They are so fucking Insane, and they produce a great and creepy atmosphere.

Mortician : This is the same as Devourment. Simple generic Slam Death.

Exhumed : GORE Metal is a fucking masterpiece. The song Limb from Limb is freaking insane.

Butcher ABC : Damn, those Japanese are as crazy as always. I'm starting to get into Japanese Death Metal, can anyone name me some good bands?

Deicide : Manly their instrumental stuff, I don't like Glen Benton at all. He seems to me like an attention seeking whore.

Decaying Purity : Nice Turkish band, very exotic. Their album was just great, I hope they happen to make another one.

Possessed : As we all know, one of the very first Death Metal bands. Although I find them more Thrash oriented. This is pure old school shit, really enjoyable. You just have to like them.

Weeping Birth : Like Merc said, he/they are one the most insane bands around. The vocals are fucked up, and the instrumentals have such an unnatural structure (like Portal)

The Sickening : Seems like the Norwegians can also make good Death Metal. I liked their album, and their cover of Hammer Smashed Face was better than the original.

Cancer : Another Death Metal veteran. Like Possessed they are more of a Thrash band, since early Death Metal was basically Thrash Metal with growling (correct me if I'm wrong)

Brujeria : What should I say about them? Mexican/Spanish suits Death Metal so good, it sounds so...how should I say it...sexy? Anyway, their debut was their best album, probably my favorite by them.

Reek of Shits : The generic Death Grind, but hey, it's still good.

Anal Nosorog : Their name is translated as Anal Rhino. I like them because they are funny, and the singers pig growls are interesting too.

Sorry if those descriptions sound a little weird, but my grammar isn't that good, and I suck at describing things.
