Darkest Hour is more of a straight-up melodic Death Metal band with -corish tinges, wouldn't consider them deathcore but they're good either way. Destriers Gait was Nothing new, and Heaven Shall Burn is kinda lame outside of their cover of Black Tears. However, Vanguard was more of what I was looking for. Hot damn, it's like Abigail Williams without all the suck. Calling it deathcore is debatable, it's got more of a "symphonic blackcore" sound to me, if that makes any sense, but that was surprisingly good. |
| Enigmatick says : Changing the subject, since deathcore is apparently a very eclectic and creative genre, could any of you guys recommend me a few bands that "break the mould" so to say? I would love it if you guys proved me wrong about my whole deathcore-is-stagnant-and-boring shpiel. |
| psycho_metal says : Okay guys, this is getting nowhere. Just stop this, you are starting to get ridiculous. |
Myspace Hi5 comments[/COLOR] | Demogorefest says : one "Deathcore" band that i'm kinda confused as to why they're labeled "Deathcore" is Animosity, i listened to their song tooth Grinder without the knowledge that they all wore Suffocation and Misfits t-shirts and all the other California trends, and its actually a pretty decent song |
| InfinityZero says : Well, lots of genres utilize blast beats and screaming/grouwling. I don't really recall breakdowns in Brutal Death Metal, either. Deathcore has more standard songwriting structure: (verse-chorus-verse-chrous-solo-chorus) while Brutal death does not. Not to mention lyrical themes. Deathcore has a lot of painfully corny lyrics while Brutal death has generic lyrics. At least Brutal death is entertaining in trying to Disgust whoever looks at the lyrics. Also, deathcore has a more syrupy-sweet production with guitars front and centre and bass pushed back while Brutal death has a lot of Kick in the production with the bass much louder. |

Breakdowns in Brutal Death are as rare as solos in Black Metal. Its not common but there are some there. |

wait what The ENTIRE FUCKING GENRE of slam death (which is a branch of Brutal death) is composed almost entirely of breakdowns. Don't believe me? Listen to Digested Flesh, Devourment or Cephalotripsy. Oh, and thanks for the recs. I HAVE heard of most of those bands however, and not only would I consider some of those bands pretty "mainstream" (Rose Funeral and A Life Once Lost are both signed to a major label and are pretty popular) but I wouldn't consider them very groundbreaking either. Still, didn't mind Mirror Of Dead Faces or whatever the name was. Oh, and for what it's worth: I've heard the guys from Suffokate are a buncha pricks. I've heard from multiple people who have played shows with them/ran venues that hosted them that they were just a stick in the ass to get along with. |
