Ok, I'm back for another round 0

Endstille - Operation Wintersun

Ahh yes, Endstille, one of my favourite bands that have poped up in the 21st century and it was this album that started their Brutal rampage to fame. If you comepare this to their latest album (Infektion 1813), this is much more raw and atmospheric than what they were now. This album is much more depressing to listen to at times. The speed of the dumming is quick, the guitar work is evenly balanced and the vocals suit the music quite nicely. Even looking at the cover at times is depressing, but this is brutal/raw black metal at it's best and it shouldn't be overlooked...

Marduk - World Funeral

Woot! MARDUK! other than their 1999 album Panzer Divison Marduk, this has to be my favourite album. It is Far less repetitve and the quality of the music is much better. They have actually changed their sound a little here rather than just br00t4al Black Metal 24/7. Although I don't have a problem with this, it is quite nice to have a change. I like how Marduk have moved to the modern age with their sound, unlike other bands who are all like "OMG, how come there are no Tr00 satanic Black Metal bands, omg". And this album displays this rather well. This album I think was the peak of Marduk's career 0

Ageless - Universal Forthcoming

I don't care what people say about new Black Metal bands, but I'm not going to Judge a band by the date they formed, because that is stupidity at it's finest. It is bands like this that keep hope for modern black metal. Their song structure is pretty good as well as their song writing. Their song structure is quite technical for a typical Black Metal band but they have a folkish style of atmosphere. This is quite a good band... but I'm not sure if this is everyone's cup of tea.

Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon

Out of all of Dimmu Borgir's albums I've heard, I think that this is my favourite (but I haven't heard them all... yet). The music is quite fast and energetic, they remind of of a messy, symphonic version of Immortal. And when I mean messy, I MEAN messy. This might not be the perfect album, infact, it's Far from it. Hell, I'm not sure if people even consider this Black Metal but oh well. I'm mirin this album, because there are a few memorable moments that are stored within this album. But, I have a feeling that I'm just going through a phase, which could end shortly. 0

Agalloch - The Mantle

After hearing so, so much about this band here on the forums and hearing one song that ryan5 recommended for me. I decided to checkout the rest of this album. To he honest with the rest of you guys, I was going in expecting the worst. I thought that this would have been just another overrated album that a whole bunch of teens are into in the forums. I thought this could have been the "Twilight" of the black metal scene. But, I was pleasently surprised when I heard the rest of this album. This is full of atmospheric black and folkish feeling behind their music. Not to mention the beautiful acoustic passages and some of the only clean vocals that I've heard in black metal... I'm not sure if this is going to far, but I might even go as far as saying that this album is Flawless!

I bought DCA by Dimmu yesterday and Mini, really it's a good album like you said but Stormblast, EDT and For All Tid are masterpieces too

I really didn't like DCA.
It was too much like PEM, which also wasn't that good to begin with.
And very boring.

That's my two cents, but then again, everything after EDT is pretty much that way (although I still have yet to hear SBD).

yay mini likes Agalloch. +1 creds, even if The Mantle is their weakest. Still, A Desolation Song and You Were But a Ghost in my Arms are classics.

Hunengrab im Herst by Nagelfar is pretty awesome, finally got around to checking the whole album out today. Surprisingly, the electronic/ambient stuff doesn't piss me off0  highly recommended for fans of Abigor

nah, Pale Folklore's not their best, but it's much more "controlled" than The Mantle. the "She Painted Fire Across the Skyline" 3-part series is sublime. They were a little more folkish Black Metal at the time, and I think The Mantle was the transition where they really started making their influences more evident and diverse- that proves to be its strength and downfall. It's almost TOO ambitious- getting wrapped up in itself too much that it doesn't really strike a chord with me, except for a few choice songs, like the aforementioned "A Desolation Song", "You Were But a Ghost in My Arms" and "In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion" (which fucking ruled when I Saw it live, BTW). Pale Folklore's not as grandiose of an album as their other works, sure, but the subtlety in the melodies is there as always, even more so than usual, and it has a really consistent feel throughout, rather than jumping in and out like The Mantle does.

I'd give The Mantle about an 87 were I to review it, Pale Folklore a 91-92 ish. Both are excellent albums, mind you.

Sorry, you got me talking bout Agalloch, I ramble like a motherfucker.

WAIT A SECOND: What The Fuck are Agalloch doing in The Black metal thread? They're Folk Metal at their heaviest, despite The Black metal influence. Honestly, besides the raspy vocals, there's not really that much Black Metal to be found in their music, not even in the earlier demos, and Black Metal riffs are kind of what defines a Black Metal band.
