bands that have insanely fast instrumentals, mainly drums and guitars, and usually extremely guttural Death Metal vocals. examples include: Origin, Decapitated,Necrophagist, Psycroptic, and my personal favorite, Fleshgod Apocalypse

I Hate labels as much as you do certainly but my ears do not deceive me.

Possessed is barely Death Metal, the vocals are still too close to Thrash Metal to fit clearly in Death Metal alone. Considering "Seven Churches" is like a landmark that eventually led to what we now know as Death Metal, they're like forefathers. It's kinda like saying Venom is Black Metal.

Plus, I don't classify Death Metal as being a sub-genre, but a genre on its own. Tehcnical Death Metal being one of its many ramifications. As much as I appreciate Origin, Hate Eternal or the other bands cited by Demogorefest, I still see them playing a different Death Metal than, let's say, Autopsy, Impetigo, Brodequin, Dead Congregation or Asphyx.

It only gets stupid when you read stuff like "Brutal Tehcnical Melodic Avant-Garde Porngoregrind Death Metal". You have to keep things simple but you also have to know where you're going.

hmm...I get your point in the Possessed part...but however I got to disagree in the classification of genre...it will get too difficult if there is another ramification as different bands has its own style and may be getting their influence from somewhere...may be you have a Grindcore band with a slight influence of black metal...so you will call that Blackened grindcore?I have even heard more ridiculous genre call the pirate metal or something like that because the lyrical theme revolves around pirates..i find it a little silly...it will be much more simpler and easier to classify if it is Death Metal alone, or black alone....well style might change but still in that category or else you will get to see in a genre represent a band not long for now...

The problem is that some bands you can't just say Death Metal or Black Metal.

Take these few examples :

Winter? Death Metal or Doom Metal? Well, they're Doom Death...

Arkhon Infaustus? They play Black Death...

And some bands have sometimes more influences/styles than just two. Take a listen at bands like Akercocke or Pan.Thy.Monium, hard to even come up with something. Labeling them Death Metal would be either misleading or reductive.

I understand you want to keep things simple but since 1987 there's been quite a few changes. To be honest, I like to know what I buy for instance and I'm not too KeeN on downloading so what if distro lists would just say Death Metal, I'd be having problems... I'm more of an old-school fan, I like GORE and stuff like that and it'd freaking piss me off to buy something too technical or too melodic just because someone would leave every band labeled "Death Metal".

If you're into bands like Immolation, Incantation and Autopsy, for instance, it would really suck to buy stuff that sounds like Dark Tranquility or At The Gates...

hmm...i get your point...but looking at the point of ridiculous genre of pornogrind and pirate metal or even Drone metal....that is what i think a little too much.....well they sound lets make a example...take sunno)))...they are doom but because they have a unique sound that sounds like drone...so people label it to Drone metal....it is alright to label till tech death or melodeath...but i do feel it is a little bit too much if one day it goes like pirate porno Blackened grind because the lyrical theme goes like a few pirates that s worshipping Satan is having Sex with another pirate...

Sure but in that case it'd be more "gay pirate porno Blackened
grind"

We're on the same wavelength. Usually I think the more people try to label things (as in "gay pirate porno Blackened
grind" hehe), the more they're trying to impress others or just sound cool... That's quite the definition of a poser in my book.
