I agree with damas, most people do things which are against the Islam, but they think they are doing it right.
Like killing your own daughter just because she has a boyfriend, or because she had sex before the marriage, that is just ridiculous.

am a Muslim but not religious

and i wonder why people ACT like this , when they hear someone is muslim they begin to make fun of him and to his religion ..... and start to ask silly questions based on ignorance ....

well first of all i think its a very dangerous topic in general.
to write about someone else religions or beliefs there is always the Risk to offend their feelings and get in trouble.
i personal am the absolute atheist. i dont really care a fuck about any religion. not about islam, nor buddism or christrianity or whatever exist.
but i cant say i Hate (if people are happy with their religion and think they will come to Heaven (or wherever).. they should do).. i just dont care about it... and neigher about all this satanism bullshit.
well... what i really Hate is religious fanatism. no matter which religion.

first off, i mean no offence to any muslims here on the forums, you guys are cool. with that being said, i have a few questions:
1: i don't know much about it but, how does the Sharia Law come into the Muslim religion, and does it play an importance in all the Sects of Islam?
2: after Salman Rushdi published the Satanic Verses (which pointed out some Hypocrisies in the Islamic religion among other topics), the Ayatollah had issued a fatwah on his life, personally, i don't understand how a peaceful religion can allow their leader to issue a Hit order on someone who has Blasphemied their beliefs, i don't see the Dalai Lama or the Pope demanding that any one convicted of Sacrilege should die; and to this day, Salmon Rushdi is forced to live in Secrecy for fear of being killed. my question being why is Islam considered a peaceful religion, yet whenever someone speaks out against them, they are declared an infidel, and are to be hunted Down and killed by the faithful?
3:  after the Danish cartoonists published a picture of Mohammed in a local newspaper, there was a violent uproar from the Muslim community, and they too are now in hiding for fear of being killed for Blasphemy.
again, i don't mean to offend anyone, i'm just hoping that someone could maybe explain to me how all these things play into a Peaceful religion.

I really do not know about this salman rushdi.
But about the danish cartoons ,well let's say first that they were very inappropriate cause democracy doesn't give you the right to make fun of people especially a figure like mohammad (raw model for all muslims)
there were some violent reactions against that and it was rejected by most muslim figures ,but there were some others drifted away by emotions acted totally by their own.
There is something you should know about muslims that they love mohammad the profet more than anyone or anything in this world and when you are doing stuff offending that figure ,you are playing with the emotions of 1.3 billion muslims .
Again the violence is not justified and most muslim scientists were against it.
Simply what happened was people drifted by their emotions.

@demogore : there's no sect in islam, our prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said that all this sect will be In Hell only one, prophet friends said : wish one our prophet, he said (صلى الله عليه و سلم) : the one who followed the holy qur'an and the sunna...
if you would know more about muslims read the history of our prophet from the birth to the death that's called "Sirra" ^^
