There's something like that in certain christian countries. Why they do it is because they want to feel jesus Pain or something but i don't know about muslims doing it.

I live in the christian country, but there nobody does any Action like this.
I know that muslims do it.

Ur not alone
But i must say that i'm not really THAT religious, of course i believe in GOD, and live my life after some rules, but i also brake some rules, i mean i believe in GOD, but i listen to satanic bands.

Philosopher: I hear this tradition the first time, really, in my Area no one does that.

You know dude not all religious people follow their religion 100%

Killing is forbidden in Islam ,
It is only allowed to Kill someone if he killed somebody ( punishment )
amy other case ,it's just people acting by their own regardlessly to what Islam says

Again I say sometimes Muslims stray out and do stuff that don't relate to islam
 
Now those who mutilate themselves with whips are showing their Sadness about the murder of "Hosain" "an islamic figure"
 
I say again ,we are not allowed to do this stuff ,but some people like to do it and you can not do anything to stop them
