Hey, guys. So I've been a pondering somethin lately..and I thought I'd take a Random poll here. The term "soul" has no universal definition, yet so many place so much importance in it. I'm curious as to how each of you defines the soul, whether or not you believe in them, and, if so, what kind of significance it bears for you and why.

Well, there's two ways of going about this one:
First off, how do you define soul?
D'you mean a ghosty thing that goes to either Heaven or Hell or some other divine afterlife?
I could get into a lengthy discussion about why I don't believe in 'em and why they haven't been proven as real, but since you may be religious I don't wanna offend.
 
I do believe statements like 'That girl has a lot of soul/spirit'. This Means like, a great personality, very caring, and very emotionally connected.

To clear some things up: I'm taking this poll/survey because I do not myself define a soul as anything in particular. The term has never been of any real significance to me. However, I understand that some people put a lot of Faith into this seemingly ambiguous entity and would like to get a better grasp on what exactly it is and why some find it so significant.

I think many people see your soul as a formless, ghost-like entity that ascends into Heaven when you die. It is given so much significance because it is essentially you, in your purest, rawest form, and it is all that entails you. I suppose people think that they themselves are pretty significant.

and consciousness?  is that an illusion?  Is all you see all there is?  Do you know there is no soul for sure?  what tethers it to the body?  just curious to how some think/believe who dont take in account any kind of afterlife or regard one.

A: No. Pinch yourself, did you feel it?

Q: Is all you see all there is?
A: Obviously not. I can't see the planet Pluto or Beyond it, but I know it's there.

Q: Do I know there is no soul for sure?
A: Of course not. Just like I don't know for sure if any fairies exist at the Bottom of my garden. It's probable they don't, just like it's probable that there's no soul.

Q: What tethers it to the body.
A: Er...Nothing.
