Well, you might well be the exception rather than the rule, don't you think?

Simply because the aforementioned bands get much more media coverage than Kiss or Alice Cooper nowadays.

I'm not saying there is one and only one golden path to get into metal but lately most people will get into metal thanks to the likes of Marylin Manson and Slipknot. They might suck but if they help people eventually get into metal they probably serve one purpose. I don't know anyone getting into metal thanks to some obscure Ukrainian BM one-man-band or your latest UG Death Metal sensation in Malaysia.

Nu Metal is just pop with "distorted" sounds. Bollocks.

I never really considered Slipknot a Nu Metal band, I just thought of them as New American; along with the bands like DevilDriver, Lamb Of God and Mastodon. Disturbed and Godsmack; I knew they really weren't either; I just thought of them as hard rock. Nu Metal to me, is a attempt to fuse rap with metal; which is like mixing pizza and ice cream together. Bands like Korn, Linkin Park, and Limp Bizkit; who had this rap feel to them. I never liked them.

It may be a metal genre, but I really don't listen to it much, since rap was neevr my cup of tea.

I agree with you with Disturbed. They're not nu-metal to me.

I would consider some nu-metal to be a form of metal. Slipknots old stuff I would consider to be nu-metal and still fall into metal. The same goes for Soulfly. Bands like Korn and Linkin Park I will argue strongly that they are not metal. And I'm not just saying that because I don't like them because I don't like Slipknot either and I'll still put them into the metal category. I think it depends with the band itself. The genre is too broad and too willing to put a bunch of different bands into the same category.

I would have to say that Nu-Metal is basically the ass end of the giant Creature that is the metal genre. Although, I cannot lie, the first metal band I got into was Slipknot, and, although I don't listen to them much now, they got me into the better stuff (somehow.) Now I listen to bands such as Amon Amarth, Moonsorrow, Orphaned Land, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, etc.

Well that's some retarded logic right there.

Also, no, nu-metal isn't metal. Some of the bands mentioned in this thread do indeed qualify as metal; however, that's because they're not nu-metal

The nu-metal genre is comprised of bands that try to fuse rap with metal. Limp Bizkit, Korn, System Of A Down, you get the idea. It's a genre that takes a small amount of metal's elements and never really embraces them. I think the term "rap rock" is a lot more fitting of the genre.

Lamb Of God, Pantera, Even DevilDriver (moreso on their later albums) are NOT nu-metal, they're groove metal, which is aesthetically similar but sonically different.

EDIT: Wow. According to these links, Lamb Of God is Deathcore, Pantera is Power Metal, and DevilDriver is death/thrash...holy fuck that makes me cringe. Wow. What the shitting cockfuck.
