I'm quite surprised Nargaroth's 2009 full length, Jahreszeiten hasn't been mentioned yet. The album is based on the four different seasons and while the "Winter" portion of the album is Cold and Bleak, the "Autumn" and "Summer" portions of the album are certainly extremely uplifting, not only the tone of the instruments, but also the riffs and the songwriting as well.

Listen to Drudkh's 'Autumn Aurora'. That's some really happy Black Metal for ya. Listen to the song 'sunwheel' off that album. It's so happy, especially for black metal. And then there're a few songs by Agalloch, but I consider them to be more Folk Metal than anything.

I've heard a few tracks off the new Nargaroth album and it could definantly be considered "happy" black metal... though i prefer the long, drawn out depressive stuff more, like seven tears are flowing to The River

I recently started listening to Samael again (stop listening for a while, don't know why). I think that Samael's Above would classify as "happy black metal"; the atmosphere in all of the songs is not sludgy and dark, it's more of a powerful and bright.

there is no such a thing as ' happy BM'. It's against the whole idea of black metal. If there is a band you want to call 'happy black metal' - than it is definitely not this genre, or the band is simply a total shit.

I agree with pavel.
I think part of the whole idea of Black Metal is to make you contemplate your mortality and Existence, especially DBSM [Depressive Suicidal Black Metal].
To me, to say that Black Metal is happy is like trying to explain to someone what water tastes like; It's impossible.

Well, Black Metal can have a uplifting sound, but 99% of the time it has depressing as fuck lyrics accompanying it. It balances out.

I don't think I've ever heard a Black Metal song with an uplifting tune... Unless Vampiric Tyrant by Satanic Warmaster counts.
