In Flame - Colony

I know In Flames arent at all popular with some in the metal Arena, but their melodies MAKE me headbang, MAKE me want more, it's quite a rare feeling that only selected bands can do to me. Colony, to me, is an album that has NO bad songs; just a fishing rod and a hook, which pulls you in over and over. It's an album ive listened to 26 times, an album, a band which has had me listening in for 3 months now. (BTW im onto Pantera now, fuck Cowboys from Hell is magic. I know Vulgar Display of Power is magic aswell, ive got that bad boy on cd. Quite a good deal actually, VDoP and Far Beyond Driven for 20 bucks at a petrol station)

I dont know whats happened from there, but clayman only had a few good songs (Clayman, Bullet Ride, Pinball Map, Only for the Weak, Square Nothing), and A Sense of Purpose was. . . below average. I'm not going to bother with their 02 release or their new one, but if anyone tells me a good song from those records, i might check em out.

Cowboys From Hell will probably be my next post, but i havent listened to it enough. 0

Mar De Grises - The Tatterdemalion Express
Mar De Grises - Draining the Waterheart

Both albums are flawless works of death/doom. Incredible atmosphere that is like walking through A Forest in the middle of Winter (DtW) or in the summer (TTE). Wonderful melodies throughout each one. Within sections of the songs, there could be several melodies intertwining; complex melodies. The riffs themselves are very cathartic. The production gives the albums a faded feel to them, but every instrument can be heard. The growls are immense, especially on the second album. Very unique death/doom. Their third album was definitely not on the same tier as these Two, but it was good.

Recommended to those who enjoy lots of atmosphere in their music and death/doom fans.

Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery

Why i chose this album? Simply it has that catchy hook which all good bands have. After my first 5 listens of the album, i knew the lyrics and knew the music. Albums that can do that to me are ones i will like for years to come, and i can always come back to them when im looking for an Anthem type song. At the behest of their death is exactly that type of song. Heavy, catchy and awesome to a sing along to. Treasonous is another, and i particularly love singing along aswell, particularly because of the lyrics. The first stanza is amazing; it flows like a leaf in the wind. Fluid, effortless.

Mikael's vocals, to me, are the Epitome of vocals in Death Metal. His vocals are sang with ease, without bending over and literally spewing them out. No, he plays guitar, stands upright sings with ease. This'd have to take alot of practice, or he has a naturally deeeeep voice. His vocals dont Die off mid-way through a scream, rather the contrary. He is one of the best vocalists in metal. I wonder what his stage presents would be like. . . but as melbourne (in December) is an over 18 Event , i cant go. I could travel to sydney but i dont have the spare $600. Same goes for CoB
