Lmfao, I used to watch that show.
It was about this dude with a blond afro and some chick friend of his with pink hair, right?

Childhood favorites were Cowboy Bebop and Dragonball Z.

I once joined a "Anime Appreciation" club during my first year of High School.

I remember seeing that "Castle in the Sky", I thought it was well done.

Now I don't watch anything really, I've got box sets for Cowboy and Dragonball that I will pull out every now and then. Nothing much other than that, I think the problem I have with a lot of Anime and MaNga is they've become too, I guess you could say "cute".

Know what you need to see? The uber-awesome incredibly crafted artistic anime movies. Here, try:
Grave of the Fireflies (BEST. EVER. But really sad. No cutesiness here, that's for damn sure.)
Spirited Away (Refresh the childhood in you without a single anime cliche or over;y-cute moment! Pure imagination, great story, and a really loveable main character)
Princess Mononoke (Waaaaaay better than the title makes it sound, and again, no really cute schmultziness to make your stomach hurt. There're a few comic relief moments that, to me, don't totally mesh, but for the most part it's serious and very well-written. Again, very imaginative.)

Watch Highschool of the Dead. This stuff is the best MaNga I've seen so far. Btw listen to CC or something while watching this, it adds atmosphere

About the MaNga, I recommend you to read Uzumaki (I don't mean Naruto). It's freaky as Hell, and has NoNe of the typical MaNga elements, and it's definitely not cute. It's really creepy and ugly. And Highschool of the Dead is great too, if you don't look at the character designs, the story is brilliant.
Yeah, I've recently started reading Mangas, and I must say, those things are awesome, I've found some pretty good ones.

I grew up watching a lot of animated shows in general - western and anime equally - so I tend to be pretty fond of it. Animated shows, at their best, showcase a rich sense of imagination visually that I love. i'm only going to post a few, I need to rewatch a lot of these movies and serieses.

-Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind: I've been meaning to rewatch a lot of Miyazaki's more major films after this, because this is one of my favourite anime movies by a fucking mile. Gorgeous animation, an excellent Voice cast (the American dubbed version has a Ton of people who sci-fi and Action movie fans will be immediately familiar with - most notably Uma Thurman, Patrick Stewart, and Edward James Olmos), and an excellent, imaginative storyline. It's true that the ending is sort of left-field (though it was established earlier) and it throws off people, but I think it works well in the context of the movie.

I'm not nearly as big on anime as I used to be, but this has held up incredibly well since I first Saw it like Six years ago. Like I said, I need to revisit some of Miyazaki's stuff because most people apparently prefer Princess Monoke to this.

-Grave of the Fireflies: Like a constant Sledgehammer to the gut. Unrelentingly Bleak, morose, and Heart crushing, but it has its glimmers of hope here and there that make it worth while. It's not all of those things for the mere sake of it, however; it possesses a natural feel that a lot of anime just doesn't capture. It's not really something I watch all that often, but it hits really hard at its best.

Yes, yes, yes! Someone else who actually knows Grave of the Fireflies! (and nice that you spread it to miniradman) That is one of my all-time favorite movies, anime or otherwise. So perfectly done, and so emotionally deep. Spirited Away comes close as Far as favorite anime movies go, but there's just so much more humanity in Grave... rather than the imagination employed in Spirited Away (not saying Spirited Away isn't highly emotional).
