To me, any genre of music can be broken Down into two components: composition and delivery. Allow me to elaborate further:

Composition is basically the "technical" part of the music and everything that has to do with it, be it pitch, dynamic, speed (or lack thereof), song structure etcetera. Sheet music is composition in its purest, rawest form, as it has no method of delivery and is just technical instructions on how to play a song.

Delivery is the method in which you play these notes, the emotion that is behind them, the "texture" of the song. Without the correct texture, metal probably wouldn't be called Heavy Metal, as heaviness is a method delivery.

Now, my question is: Which Element is more valuable to the genre of metal? I mean, you can have bands like Triptykon, who have a really good vibe going and have a friggin gnarly guitar tone but can't write a good riff to save their lives and the music suffers because of it. Then there's bands like Necrophagist or Yngwie Malmsteen, who have incredible, mindblowing melodies but are so stale and flat in their delivery that the music doesn't trigger any emotional response from me. On The One hand, bands like Manilla Road or Amon Amarth wouldn't be so damn good if they didn't have boatloads of epic riffs, on the other hand, Slayer, Iron Maiden and pretty much every thrash band in Existence would suck if their music was played by robots. Don't believe me? just listen to 8-bit renditions of Slayer and Maiden songs, they suck ass.

I'm pretty much on the fence for this one, honestly. What do you guys think?

If anybody needed a reason why minidickman should GTFO, look no further! ^

Would you like to actually justify your response, or are you content with keeping that post as idiotic as it was?

I believe that delivery is more important in subgenres that have a base as atmosphere. Such subgenres would include post-metal, "dark metal", Gothic Metal (of the Sentenced variety), Progressive Metal (of the Devil Doll variety, not the crazy technical part), a lot of Doom Metal, and this could go on.

The composition is more important in point of technical riffs and such in these subgenres: Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal (my opinion), Industrial Metal, Progressive Metal (of the Meshuggah variety, the technical part), and others but I'm too Lazy to remember.

Sure those genres could have bands that use both, but I believe that these genres have a basis in these two properties.

By the same token though, there's a lot of bands that pretty much Nailed the perfect atmosphere on the Head but the melodies just don't accentuate it enough to create that euphoric feeling. Ulver's Kvledssagner would be a good example of this off the top of my Head, though I'm sure many would disagree with me on that one.

Easily composition. Composition makes everything up; it's solid and it's rigid.
Delivery is something that's alterable, and different tones can be taken for the same song. Delivery is the finishing touch on a ton of metal albums, sure, but to me the composition is the foundation for any music and so it's more important.

And hey, go easy on miniradman.

Fuck, why won't you shut the Hell up with all this arguing? All you are doing is mindlessly rambling on against Miniradman. And now, Enigmatick, you are antagonistic to Miniradman because be made a small statement to your question? Is there a fucking problem? He answered your question. To point out, it would be idiotic if he was ignorant to what you have stated (i.e.: not even being relevant to the topic). But he wasn't. He answered how he wanted to. Though it may be small, you should accept his opinion on this topic.

Dammit, why are you so immature sometimes?

Please all of you, GET THE FUCK ALONG. Again, I seriously Hate doing this.

Agreed with mercenarion.
Seriously, if someone like Raina or Archon made that comment, I doubt very much you'd respond like that.
I'm okay with the offhand joke, but you seem to critique the guy's intelligence every time he says anything on a forum. Just ease up.
