No matter who you are, where you're from, or what kind of metal you listen to, you'll be exposed to blastbeats at one point or another. So, share your opinions on them. Do they add or detract to a song? How much is too much? Does it depend on the genre? Which band do you think uses blastbeats the most effectively? The least effectively? There' a wealth of fertile discussion ground here, so have at it!

DISTRACTING
If they go on for a full song w/o variation.
I mean blast beats are a good showcase of a drummer's endurance and Stamina at a drumkit, but there's not much else nice about 'em.
They worked on the song Jesu Dod but only because they were quiet in the mix. Sometimes the blast beats are WAY too loud. Anyway, I generally don't like them.

I'd be fine with blast beats, but it seems that tech death bands think it is amazing to have blast beats the ENTIRE time.

Goddamn, it gets irritating.

It can get irritating but they have their qualities and charm too. Imagine this song without blast beats, it wouldn't be as insane:

I love blast beats and I think it's what makes music so br00t00l and technical. But... yes, there are times where there are too loud and when this happens with a shitty drummer, it turns into shit 0

When done correctly at the right time it can be pure genius!

I don't think a lot of tech death bands blast a lot, (though it's not like they never do) and that's not really the irritating part of the drumming for me- the thing that REALLY pisses me off is their tendency to throw random-ass fills in when it doesn't serve the song at ALL.

Also, Cryptopsy's NoNe So Vile may have some of the best uses of blastbeats ever. In general, the drumming on that album is pretty much what I'd call perfect.

I've always loved FF's blast beats, particularly in the songs' "What will become", (the riff at about 40 seconds in works well with the blast beats. It's do damn catchy.), and another song (not my favourite),"Hurt conveyor". I've always loved the start of Hurt conveyor.

Gojira's "Backbone", not only does it have a fucken awesome riff/s, it's blast beats are well used particularly at 1.21.

Decpitated's "Spheres of madness" has a Sick start. But, it gets very repetitive nontheless.

If anyone's heard of George Kallias, of Nile, he has a pretty good blastbeat.

Pesonally, i agree with Merc in the Fact that blastbeats can get irritating if over used. I like variations, and not constant blast beating or symbol "thrashing".

yeah, thats true, but I'm not sure if I should count that as a plus or a minus because on one hand, the blast beats make the song better and more Insane, but on the other hand, they could only be doing this to fabricate everything else that is going on in the backround. Now that is bad 0

Either way, I liked that Belphegor song 0

I don't think Spheres of Madness has any blastbeats.
