I was just about to ask the same question, because I think that Atmosphere can describe any Black Metal band out there. Thanks...

ANY band can Evoke an atmosphere. There's a difference between the two, and it's really not that hard to put into words: Ambient Black Metal takes much influence from actual ambient music, while atmospheric Black Metal can be said as any Black Metal that's slower, more pensive, and generally tries harder to create some sort of, well, atmosphere. Burzum and Blut Aus Nord (the early stuff anyways) follow the rules of ambient music- slowly evolving and changing rhythms and melodies that are less focused on the melodies themselves and more about the Evolution of them- and Walknut and Drudkh are atmospheric black metal- music that is fully and wholly Black Metal, but takes an approach of "each repetition gains profundity". No real ambient music influence (aside from those goofy intros Drudkh always has, but those don't count.). There's a lot of overlap between the two, but there's still a difference.
