Force Majeure
Saturday June 12 was the last day oftwo festivals – big Sauna Open Air and NKM Festival in YO-Talo club. Both took
place in Tampere, Finland.
At NKM Fest it was day of the power
metal. I’d even say that there were too much of power metal, at least I had
enough of it for a few months. Maybe it was one of two lacks of the festival:
this total power metal rule and bands played so late. The first performance
started at 22.30, and the festival ended after 3 o’clock in the night!
Force Majeure was the first band.
Definitely it wasn’t the best band in the country, so there were quite a few
people in the hall. Musicians were pretty boring on stage: it was a kind of
powerless power metal, it lacked drive and energy and show. The vocalist (the
same guy who sings in Carcadial) was even better this day in Force Majeure.
With time, by the middle of the performance, the band was getting better,
musicians started to move more but it was too late to build the atmosphere of
the show. It was a bit atonic performance. Nothing to remember. Still it was
quality music and musicians know how to play. After all they just have to think
of stage performance more. The bass player was really nice and on the last song
he leaped off stage and played face to face with those fans that stood there.
Ironica
The second band on the roll was a
nice symphonic power metal band with the female vocal. This 5-piece band was
much better than the previous one. Frontwoman Elina has the strong voice and
sings in different ways, she has the good image and she got all the chances to
become well-known in the future. I can say the same about the whole band. They
are nice, they are professionals and their music is good, they entertain, they
have the energy and try to give to the audience. People felt it and now there
were more people in the hall. I hope it was only because of the small stage
that the second guitarist just stood on his place and keyboard stand was hiding
in the corner. So the vocalist, the lead guitarist and the bass-player had the
main attention of the audience. The lead guitarist also did some backing
vocals, but the sound wasn’t enough good and mostly it went unnoticed. Overall,
this band is really good and that night it was a breath of fresh air between
common classic power metal bands.
Insania (SWE)
Insania was the only guest from the
abroad on the Festival. And yes, it was a down-to-line classic power metal. Couldn’t
be more classic! They are good. Just I don’t like when musicians afford to go
on stage being in beer. Lanky and a bit angular vocalist sang really well but
couldn’t get all the attention of the audience and hardly is able to make the
real show. I was quite disappointed about this band. The skilled playing is not
everything in music, especially if the band goes on stage. Insania are good
musicians and they have amazing music but they are not actors and they are
boring on stage.
Dreamtale
The real headliner of the day was
the last band, Dreamtale. And guess what, it’s also the classic power metal!
The little brother of Stratovarius. The skilful, proficient, bright, powerful
and colourful, vivid and energetic band. Amazing band but pretty boring because
we have already had something like 3 hours of power metal before them. Only a
die-hard fan can stand that. Maybe the long soundcheck was even for the better,
the audience has a break.
Dreamtale’s performance started with
the pathetic intro and continued with problems with sound. The mastermind of
the band, guitarist Rami, tried to save the situation with playing some solos.
Dreamtale has a charming charismatic vocalist Erkki who did the perfect job. This
band had everything – drive and energy and catchy melodies and heroic poses. It’s
a simple strategy that has already brought a success to many bands. The only
mistake was maybe the ballad, slow song at 3 o’clock in the night… There was the risk
that people would fall asleep.
The stage looked like after an
invasion that time, flooded with water and beer. Invasion of power metal
musicians that can’t live without beer. Especially Swedes. Everybody had fun,
both the bands and the audience, for example during one pure power metal guitar
solo the vocalist and the keyboardist of Dreamtale bandied a plastic glasses
over the drummer. In the end Dreamtale left the stage obviously waiting for the
encore, and they had it and they returned and introduced the band (I like that,
it’s really nice to know who has played for us). Then they played one more song
for the final titbit.
There are white nights in June in Finland and sometimes night and day swap
over. It’s a great time for all kind of festivals and thanks to fathers of NKM
Fest for the idea and turning it into reality. Thanks to bands for the gigs. Hope
next time it will be even more superb!

Force Majeure's singer is Ricky Tournee (me) and I can assure that I have nothing to do with Carcadial's singer Pasi.
I think you were pretty wasted on that night if you thought we were the one and same guy and that makes your whole report pretty false.
