The adventure started when guitarist Bert Haalboom first joined up with Raimon Schaap (guitars) and Roberto Kok (drums). After jamming together a few times in the rehearsal space they started itching to write their own songs. The result of this itching were a few own songs with plenty of melody and very characteristic double guitar leads.

After sweating and working in the cramped rehearsal space they ran into the people they needed to take the project further: Marcel Slaman was willing to provide the vocal violence they needed. Robert Hupkes took up the vacancy for the bassplayer and was also added to the line-up, completing the band.

In the winter of 2009 Senescence started playing live in bars and venues around the region where they were formed, and with success! Cayen in Enkhuizen has asked Senescence to take care of the metal bookings, at Winterstoppop festival in Wervershoof Senescence won the studio prize and youth centre R17 sent them to Lunapop in the Waerdse Tempel, Heerhugowaard, as their best live band of 2009. Here Senescence proved that they can impress a mixed crowd, even with a set of just 20 minutes.

Alongside their musical careers on stage Senescence also fathered the concept of “Sins Will Unite”. This unique package deal provides venues with a completely taken care of metal night with three promising bands. The bands arrange the booking, backline and promotion for the venue, saving the venue a lot of work. The result are well-visited nights with loud music, enthusiastic bands, a great atmosphere and ditto bar turnover !

In the fall of 2011 Senescence released their first full length album “In Vain”. On this album are 8 songs, written in the first few years of existence of the band, which were recorded in the Legacy Studio (Barry Hay, de Heideroosjes) and mixed and mastered by Patrick ter Wee. The album offers a mix of the band’s live energy combined with the possibilities offered by the recording studio, which makes the mix of aggression and melody reach its full potential.

Working together better than ever, armed with an album and writing even more original songs Senescence is hoping to come to a podium near you soon and blow your socks off !
