The excessive consumption of beer, wine and absinth as much as a sporadic mood of spontanity droves Askalon and me to rise our praised shadow existence in april 2003. With Schattendasein we wanted to create a band which perfectly fits to our idea of true Black Metal. It gave us the chance to realize all our sick and perverted imaginations and put it into the only form of music we like, the only art which will ever please us. But let me tell you how everything began: It was in spring 2002 as Askalon´s path crossed mine and I immediately enslaved him to accompany my oral effusions in my first band ”Epitaph Opera” with his instrumental abilities. After another year passed by we finally seized the idea of founding a true Black Metal band named Schattendasein. As I said before, we wanted to keep alive the true Black Metal of the early 90´s and we oriented our style on the legendary creations of Darkthrone, Carpathian Forest and Immortal. But we couldn´t withstand to bring in our own cacophounus and disharmonic timbres. In may 2003 we already had composed three songs and after another month of muse we had finished another three. We decided to record these six tracks at Umtrunk Studios and release them in december 2003. That´s how our first album “Trauerwald” was born. So, we hope you enjoy our creations and our forest of sorrow
