Satans Penguins was formed in 1998 with the intention to break against current traditions in the black metal scene. Mainly, these intentions have been on a musical level, which explains why we use instruments such as saxophone, saz, tablas, darbouka and acoustic guitars - not only in the intros and outros as most other bands do - but in the heart of our songs. In fact, our music (at least the more recent recordings) is arranged in the spirit of classical music: without relying on a verse - chorus structure. Our musical arrangements are also influenced by other kinds of music, such as jazz. However, the guitar solos are (most of the time) not freely improvised, as they are in jazz and sometimes also in death- and thrash metal.

In Spring 1999 we recorded the demo "Arctic Winter" on a 4-channel portable studio. The lineup on that demo was:
Flame - bass and programming,
Helldiver - guitars,
Killerpenguin - guitars,
Mr Malice - vocals.

In summer 2001 the full length album "Birds of Darkness" was released by heretic sound records. The lineup on that recording was:
Flame - bass and handclaps,
Killerpenguin - guitars,
Killhammer - drums,
Ludi McSkank - saxophone,
Mr Malice - vocals,
Slayerprincess - vocals.
The album received good reviews.

After that was a long period without any serious recordings being done. Killerpenguin rehearsed with some people (Corpsebasher, Fishbutcher, President Evil) but it was difficult to form a permanent lineup with dedicated musicians. This was mainly due to the fact that most people fail to understand that Satans Penguin is a serious band. To Satans Penguins, a serious musician is someone who adjusts to other peoples opinions only to such extent that it does not conflict with his or her personal convictions.

In 2005, the third recording, which initially was supposed to be named "Creatures of the ice", begun to take shape. Killerpenguin had decided to do most of the work by himself and put together some new and old material which then was recorded (in 2006) as "Bloodlust of the Warpenguins". The lineup on the recording is:
