Biografie : Moder

Moder (german for "mould" or "decay") was started in spring 2001.
Founding members were Michi Hate (guitars, keys) and Necro Nickel (guitars, vocals).
After some months of rehearsals the first songs were written. We used a drumcomputer since we didn't find a drummer.
In autumn 2001 we recorded our first untitled CD-R demo on an analogue 4-tracker which featured 6 tracks and had a playing time of 20 minutes. Still, we used a drumcomputer on this release and a Bass guitar is completely missed, so the result was not too satisfying for us... For this reason, it was not spread much. The guitars were played by both members.
The last song on the demo "Forces of Evil" is a relict from Nickel's old Grindcore project. This was actually the first Moder song.

In early 2002, we recruted a Drummer called Volker who just started to play dums. Looking back critically at our demo, we spent more time on songwriting now, trying not to repeat our mistakes. Additionally, my (Nickel's) poor guitar abilities and the missing of a bass led me to change to bass guitar, so the line-up was completed. A lot of rehearsals followed.
After around 8 months, we had enough materials and recorded our next release; the "Gates to Insanity" CD-R Album. It was recorded in our rehearsal room with cheap microphones on a 16 track.digital recorder, so the sound was quite rough, but still okay and fitting the atmosphere of the songs, which were primitive, often slow, blackening Death Metal.
Some songs on "Gates to Insanity" were partly quite long and with almost epic influences ("Hall of the Immortals", "Blutsturm"), while shorter titles ("Where blood forever rains", "Essenz der Hungrigen") showed a more traditional Death/Black Metal style.
Volker left the band after the release of the album since he couldn't identify with our style anymore.

In winter 2002/2003, we got to know our next drummer Lutz (also known as Nork Mork). He learned our songs pretty fast and soon we wrote the next songs (in our rehearsal room) which were now more catchy, fast and short.
In autumn we recorded our next demo "Valley of no Light" in "Hell 7" studios in TODtglüsingen.
Released on both CD-R and Tape format.
The reactions on "Valley of no Light" were mostly good; so we started to spread more and more promos...
At this time we also started to play several live shows. Michi organises gigs sometimes himself together with other bands.

In early 2004 Nork Mork disappears after a great concert in Bremen. This gig, by the way, gets released as Live Tape called "Bremen Devastation", featuring "Gates to Insanity" on the B-side. After some months, we get "Mosher" as replacement on the drums. Mosher is actually singer and guitarist in SNIPER, a great Death/Thrash Metal band, by the way.
Soon new songs are written. In winter 2004/early 2005 we record our second album "Fields Of Devastation" at Bubbleland studios in Rotenburg and Nartum. Mistakenly, some drumparts were recorded too short, so the already short album has a playtime of 26 minutes only. Anyway, it's sold very cheap, so don't complain, you bastard.
The material on "Fields Of Devastation" is again a bit different from the earlier stuff. This time the songs vary more, they differ more from each other, though it's still simple, raw Death Metal.
The cover art for "Fields..." was made on our demand by the german artist Markus Vesper.
The album is released on pro-pressed CD this time.
"Fields..." got surprisingly mostly good response and led to many great reviews, interviews and distribution in the worldwide Metal underground.
Many gigs, again.
In summer 2005, our rehearsal room burns down with all instruments. Mosher leaves the band for 1. This reason, as he couldn't afford a new drumkit and 2. SNIPER takes more and more of his time. Michi wants to split-up the band, but fortunately changes his mind.
For this reason, the planned tape version of the album is only with a selfmade xeroxed cover.

After a while, we get Astaroth (from the band INAMABILS) as new drummer. More rehearsals....
In spring 2007, we record our third album "Ewiger Tod" (german for "Eternal Death") in "Metal Sound" studios in Lerbach. Engineer is Torsten Sauerbrey, known as producer of bands like DARK AT DAWN, SARDONIC, etc...
The sound is more fat this time; also, the drums are triggered.
Cover art again by Markus Vesper.
In early 2007, Murder Records (ned) released the "Fields Of Devastation" album on cassette, with pro cover.
Murder Records will also do the Tape version of "Ewiger Tod".
"Of Crawling Shadows Records" (ger) will release an LP version of "Ewiger Tod".
Dated August 2007.
