Biografie : Magnus (PL)

Magnus is one of the pioneers of the THRASH DEATH wave in Poland. In the 80's when DEATH was being born, Magnus blazed a trail of an innovative style of fast and heavy play. The first in Poland and one of the first bands in the world which highlit music with a controversial and rare image, as black uniforms filled with thorns were in those times.

987 - Some musicians from Wroclaw (POLAND) put their joint effort to do something which seemed vital for them. The aim was to create a sharp and uncompromising form of sound.
They were ROB BANDIT (vocals), PYTHON (guitars), BASTARD (guitars), EDI (bass) and RAK (drums).

The very same year the first track is made : "Trash Attack".
The remaining works, which Magnus performed at the concerts, are the old compositions of Python, kept in style
of Speed Power Metal.

1988 - In February, concerts in France, where Magnus takes part, invited by a periodical :
"Hier Aujour' hui - Demain".
After the return a few concerts are played for some time, and then there is a personal change : drummer RAK is replaced by JARAS.

1989 - Intensive work on new pieces, and concerts, and concerts... From November till December, Magnus stays in a studio "Izabelin" in Warsaw where they record their
first official record, entitled later : "Scarlet Slaughterer".

1990 - In March, a trip behind the eastern border and three concerts in Moscow. At that time, another change in the team takes place. BASTARD is replaced by GUZZ, and EDI by ADDAGIO.

In April, another visit to Moscow, other performances, this time at the festival "An Iron March" which takes place in Gorkie's Park. Some more concerts in Poland, and the band starts to work on new material. The first songs that are made : "That Is The Reason I'd Like You To Die..." and "Gods Of Crime". The work on the new stuff lasted since April 1991.

1991 - Concerts in Poland and in the USSR (Moscow for the third time). This time two concerts in the "Łużniki" hall.
From 30 April till 2 May, Magnus records the second demo untitled : "The Gods Of The Crime"

Another change - a bass player ADDAGIO is replaced by GREG.
Magnus starts to create other tracks, which are to complete their second record.

1992 - Concerts together with : Napalm Death, Deicide, Atrocity, Gorefest, Samael and, meanwhile, preparations for recording in studio.

At last, from May to June, in "Izabelin" studio, 11 songs of Magnus become registered. Only in July, a Swiss company BLACKEND Rec. edits this material under the title : "I Was Watching My Death". Almost at the same time, a Polish publisher publishes 8 tracks chosen from this session under another title : "The Gods Of The Crime".

Several weeks later, thanks to DIGITON company, "Scarlet Slaughterer" appears the market. This is a re-edition of the record published a year before by MIL company on the tape.

1993 - From the beginning of the year to September, Magnus gives concerts and, simultaneously, prepares new songs.
September - October - another visit in "Izabelin" studio where Magnus strengthens their consecutive set of compositions for a new record, entitled originally : "PERFECT CRIME", which was eventually published as "ALCOHOLIC SUICIDE".

1994 - reissue of the Swiss record "I Was Watching My Death" in the Polish market and the premiere of a new one "ALCOHOLIC SUICIDE" thanks to METAL MIND PRODUCTION.

1994 - 1996 - This period, consists mostly of the concerts under the title of ALCOHOLIC SUICIDE TOUR.
Meanwhile, performances at Metalmania '94 together, with such groups as Morbid Angel, Samael, Cannibal Corpse. Also the work on their own version of punk-rock tracks gets started, of such groups as Stiff Little Fingers, Youth Brigade, Exploited, Ramones, Armia, Sex Pistols... The idea, though, was abandoned.

1997 - Magnus stops their activity (let's hope that it's not the end of the history of Magnus).
