Kyuss is widely held to be the Stoner Rock equivalent of the Velvet Underground in both scope of influence and lack of commercial success. In two years the band went from playing "desert parties" in and around their hometown of Palm Desert, CA, to creating Blues For The Red Sun, widely hailed by critics and fans alike. Subsequent releases were as inspired, and the band called it quits a few years later, with several members being reincarnated in Queens Of The Stone Age.
