Biografie : For Ruin

For Ruin has formally existed since late 2003. Based in Cork, Ireland, it was temporarily based in Valencia, Spain and has now returned to Ireland. Having played and recorded with a number of bands during his years, as well as recording and producing many Cork-based bands, founder member John began playing a mixture of melodic black/death metal with strong harmonies, melodies and dynamics throughout.

During 1998-2004, John wrote and demoed a number of tracks which finally found their way onto the split Meiche / For Ruin demo. This first For Ruin demo contrasts two styles of metal, with For Ruin displaying a distinctively melodic approach, while Meiche possess a more raw black metal approach. John assisted Taranis by playing drums, keyboards and lead guitar on the Meiche tracks. The split demo was recorded by John at home during late 2003/2004 at various intervals. During early 2004, John relocated to Valencia, Spain and immediately began writing and recording again, bouyed by encouraging reviews of the first For Ruin demo in many publications.

For Ruin, November 2006

In November 2005, Murphy was joined by three talented and energetic musicians – Ollie O' Shea, Ian O' Donnabháin and Steve O' Connell on guitar, bass and drums respectively. Having completed an Irish tour with Mael Mordha in early February, 2006 as well as a number of other gigs, including an appearance at the 2006 Day of Darkness festival. A support slot with Decapitated proved to be O Connell´s final gig drumming with the band as he has since departed for S.E. Asia, travelling for a year. The DOD gig was the last show for O´Shea and O´Donnabháin, as they have since travelled abroad and we wish them the very best. Murphy has recently been joined by drummer Barry English (Captain Insano), guitarist Drew Myers (Hallowed) and bassist Barry O´Sullivan (I´ll Eat Your Face). The band are currently rehearsing it for the upcoming shows in support of the band's latest offering Obsidian.
