Firebird was formed in around 1978 in Reading Berkshire. A few tentative lineups and a number of rehearsals later and the basic line up of the band was created:

In 1979 the band were lucky to get an invite to make use of some studio time provided at Kingsway recorders in London. The offer came from local resident Ian Gillan who not only produced the single but also chauffeured the band up to town. The session was engineered by Chas Watkins who had just finished the Mr Universe album.

After release, the single Change/Nightride was picked up by some DJs and the band made the Sounds rock charts. Steve Goodyear left the band after the single had been recorded and the band pressed on with creating a fan base in Berkshire and Oxfordshire before splitting in 1980.
