Biografie : Cirith Gorgor

Cirith Gorgor was raised at the end of 1993 by the two guitarists Astaroth Daemonum and Asmoday. About half a year later Levithmong joined them on drums. They started under the name of Dark Sorceress and after doing some covers from bands as Mayhem, Slayer and Darkthrone , they got accustomed to each other's playing styles and the first songs were written. Then Lord Mystic joined the band on the bass guitar, they changed the band's name into Cirith Gorgor and more songs were written. Astaroth Daemonum wrote most of the lyrics, inspired by the hate against organized religion, darkness, mythology and authors like Tolkien.

At the end of 1995 Cirith Gorgor kicked their former vocalist out of the band. Due to lack of motivation he was considered no longer suited for Cirith Gorgor. Despite this, they kept rehearsing and after some auditions it became evident that Nimroth was the right person to replace him. He entered the realm of Cirith Gorgor and still remains the permanent vocalist. Cirith Gorgor began to develop the style they play today, which is fast, yet melodic black metal. Now Nimroth also became involved in writing lyrics for the band. Then at the 26th of April 1997 they performed live for the first time in Rotterdam. Because of problems with one of the guitars and a bad organization it was quite a mediocre gig. Two weeks later in Roermond they performed a lot better. At the end of November of that same year Cirith Gorgor released their first demo, entitled "Mystic Legends... It was planned to be released in a limited edition of 250 copies, but because of a still remaining huge demand after being sold out, one hundred more demos were printed, although in a slightly different lay out. A few weeks later these were sold out too. Cirith Gorgor didn't sit still but kept rehearsing, wrote more songs and performed live several more times, with the likes of a/o. Behemoth, Ancient, Occult, Liar of Golgotha, and Ordo Draconis.

Then, almost exactly one year after releasing the demo they got in contact with French label Osmose Productions, who were interested in Cirith Gorgor. The band was offered a contract and planned to record the first full-length album at the end of November 1998. In the following year, 1999, this album entitled "Onwards to the Spectral Defile" was released in May. Unfortunately guitarist Asmoday decided to leave Cirith Gorgor due to personal circumstances just after the recording sessions. The band had to find a new guitarist now, and luckily within a short period of time a new one was found. Cirith Gorgor recruited Marchosias and now the band is once again able to follow the path…

The first gigs with Marchosias were played with a/o. Sinister, Asphyx, Shadowbreed and Testament. Cirith Gorgor then started writing new material to record a follow-up for "Onwards..." which received positive reactions almost everywhere. The new album will be in the same style as the previous one, namely fast yet melodic, and with a new writer in the process, it'll be even better, heavier, more aggressive and more brutal.

The recordings and mixing of the new album "Unveiling the Essence" have now finally been finished. It was recorded at the well-known Haroow Studio's during 9 days in October 2000 and mixed in December of that same year. The album is set for release the 5th of March 2001 and will once again be released by Osmose Productions. After the release there will be more live shows throughout the Netherlands and abroad...
