Biografie : Carnivore

Carnivore was a New York based thrash metal band that formed in 1982 when a band called Fallout split up. The former members Peter and Lou continued working together and formed a band called Disciple together with a guy called Larry. Larry only lasted for about a month though until he was fired. The new guitarist was Stan Pillis who had found out through his brother that Fallout had broken up. Stan and Peter had met back in 1979 when they had taken a music theory course together at Edward R. Murrow High School. He did an audition at Pete's place and got the job. Pete was into bands like Angel Witch, Witchfinder General and Manowar while Stan was more into progressive stuff like Zappa, King Crimson, Patti Smith and Dead Kennedys. That was in the spring of 1982. At this time they had to change their name since there was already a band named Disciple and another one called Disciples Of Soul. For a month they tried to come of with a name until Pete one day suggested Carnivore. Now they started looking for a singer since Pete didn't want to do it. During the summer they worked on new material such as "Subhuman", End Of The World", "World Wars III & IV", "Deliver Us To Evil" and "Excecutioner". The band tried every male and female in Brooklyn but finally settled with a guy called Enrico. He was more into opera and bands like REO Speedwagon and TOTO. He stayed with the band for a while but eventually they realized that his voice didn't work with their music and he was fired. From now on Peter handled the vocals himself. The band did their first gig at Zappa's in Brooklyn in June 1983. In 1983 Stan Pillis also left the band to be replaced by Keith Alexander. In 1985 they released their debut album through the newly formed Roadracer Records (later to be Roadrunner Records). In the early shows Pete often carved crosses into his face. He also wrote lyrics for the debut album from Agnostic Front. In 1989 the band split up with Pete Steele forming Subzero which became Repulsion which became Type O Negative.
