Idea of the band was born when Jere Luokkamäki and Aku Rahkonen met each other in december 2001 at Seinäjoki, Finland. Allmost right after the "meeting" they started to form a band. Aku and Jere had created some songs to their computers and they started to unite them. Right in the beginning were clear that there would be story about vampires and witches beside the music.


Teemu Koskela and Jari Lehtola joined the band in the summer 2002. Jere knew Teemu from the band Blue Berry Hill and Jari played in the Jere's other band Celesty few years ago. Together Aku, Jere, Teemu and Jari started to train songs and compose new ones.


Autumn 2002 Timo Rantanen joined the band. Teemu knew Timo from his childhood and others knew him from the band called Dreamfall. Keyboardist Jusu Suominen were also Jere's and Jari's good friend and because Jusu was interested in their music he also joined Caldwell.


So, with this line-up Caldwell started to train songs and in december 2002 they headed "Mot Mot studios" to record their first demo "Flames of Pyre".
