Black Bile is the latest moniker for the long time musical venture of Henri Kuittinen. The band is the first artist on Sakara Records, which is run by the members of Mokoma, to sing in English. All songwriting is by Kuittinen, who also handles the duties of vocals, guitar, and programming, both live and on the album. In its current state Black Bile operates as a quintet.

The name of the band refers to the Greek word for melancholy, melas (black) kholé (bile). According to the then prevalent medical theory of the four humours, an excess of black bile in a person caused the person to become melancholic. A healthy person would have the four humours - black and yellow bile, blood, and phlegm - balanced.
