Biografie : Belinus

The music of Belinus can best be described by the term “Celtic War Metal” with the music and lyrics conjuring up images of the glorious era when the Celts were once the dominant forces in Europe. This tribute to Ireland's legacy combines atmospheric guitar orientated black metal with elements of other metal genres to produce the unique style that is Belinus.

Formed in November 1995, lineup instability and the completion of the members respective educations meant that Belinus did not record until late 1999, with the core members Ro Ho Gar Darn (V+G), G O Meachair (B+V), G.Blackheart (D) and Pagan (G). The resulting demo was deemed unfit for release, as a direct result of the poor and overpriced recording facility, and the incompetence of the engineer. After two live shows, the band parted company with guitarist Pagan due to musical differences. In order to fulfil a contract for a live show while G O Meachair was on vacation, concert promoter Taranis filled in on bass for the night. This lead to Taranis joining the band on a permanent basis on (G+V), and it is this line up that has remained to this day.

Since then the band have played several live shows at various locations in Ireland. Belinus entered BPM studios in Cork to record “Battle Chants” in December 2001 and January 2002, with it being released in Febuary 2002. Reactions to the release have been very good, all over the world, with the cd getting airplay on radio stations in the USA, Austrailia, Norway, Ireland, UK, Brazil, Romania and Lithuania, with positive feedback coming from these countries as a result of this airplay.

Sales not including promotional copies have topped several hundred so far since February. Promotional material has thus far only been sent to radio stations and underground fanzines, in order to garner an underground support for the band ahead of the second round of promotions, which will this time take in the more well known metal magazines worldwide and record labels. In the first review from one of these magazines, Ireland's Metalworks magazine the band got 9/10, and an interview. Reactions from the underground fanzines and webzines has been very positive, with the band receiving 9.5/10 on the influential paganmetal.com, 8.5/10 on chroniclesofchaos.com, 4.5/5 on metalireland.com and many other similar reviews. The band has about 10 forthcoming interviews in zines in such countries as Austrailia, Brazil, Romania, Turkey, Malaysia, USA, Spain, Canada among others. “Battle Chants” has also been well received by other bands, with members of such as Testament, Primordial giving very positive feedback on hearing “Battle Chants”.
