Now that’s a surprise! The guys at
Agonia Records seem to want to diversify their horizons. I was used to the likes of
Azarath,
Mr Death and other
Die Hard’s and the first listen of this beast that is
Beissert’s second release is how so exhilarating.
From the Polish label, we’ve been used to releases that deal with the Triumvirat of
Extreme Metal, i.e. Death
Metal, Black
Metal and Thrash
Metal.
Beissert is the exception to the rule. It’s an Unidentified Musical Object flying straight to you. I must confess that I got very very skeptical when I played the record the first three times. No blast beasts, no occult and/or putrid atmosphere, no harsh vocals, I was like “What the fuck”.
But then again. good if not excellent records tend to take a bit more time to grasp their full content.
Beissert's second album is entitled "
The Pusher" and more explicitly: "Songs ov Wolves,
Witches,
War and Wrath". If I tell you that the Germans define their music as
Saxon Metal, you're probably going to feel a bit disorientated. Well, I guess you’d be disorientated at first like I was myself when I firs listened to this record. I guess
Saxon Metal is just about a good and fitting description as it can get because labels will fail to characterize
Beissert’s music. Unless, of course, we go for the mile-long description of their rich and intricate music. But I’m no journalist and frankly I don’t’ see the point.
Enough said.
Beissert delivers catchy and groovy material that is a mixture of Thrash
Metal riffing, Heavy
Metal loudness and even some
Doom Metal tendencies on some occasions. Still, it fails to capture the whole thing because each song in this record feels like it could have been done by a different band. On “Uphilllfight Against The Sun”, you’re presented with a mix between
Baroness and
Pantera with some horns blowing in the background! On “Durch
Die Haare In Das Kind”, you’re served some kind of Fusion
Metal, something in between
Infectious Grooves and the powerful choruses of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones! With powerful vocals, sometimes in English but most times in German, the experience is just EXHILARATING!!!
Think that’s it? Haha, well not quite, not quite. How do you like Kindergarten German kids singing along with a depressive piano much like
Faith No More's Be
Aggressive or what's up with those Indians singing in "Unaussprechlichen Kvlten”??
You may think you’ve had enough of all this bullshit and that it probably sounds like shit anyway. You’d be quite wrong, let me tell you. These guys have successfully put this eclectic melange in the right shapes and forms and the overall result is astonishing.
Hard to believe but once you get the knack for the band, I can only promise you that you'll never get tired of playing it. Simply a great record if not a breakthrough album at all. Fantastic!
