One track to rule them all?

Fiends at Feast are an American Black Death Metal band who just released their first demo / EP entitled Shadows of Extinction. To be perfectly honest, at first the very first track felt like dull Black Metal played soullessly and despite the "flamenco" acoustic guitar at the end with no little resemblance to France's Impureza, it felt as yet just another act to play bland, generic Black Metal.

The main interest though of this 3-tracks effort lies in the second track named Revelations ov Chaos where more of the Death Metal notes can be heard. I wouldn't want people to get the wrong impression. It’s no better because it’s got more Death Metal it’s a lot better because of the jazzy bass works which felt highly original with this early Atheist feel to it. This track is definitely the jewel of this recording and chances are that if Fiends at Feast want to “break in” the scene, it’s this path they should keep on exploring.

The third and final is a classic Black Death song which is an okay way to end this demo having an almost Swedish sound and approach to it which reminded me of bands like Dismember or even closer, Afflicted though it's nowhere near as good as that Revelations ov Chaos track.

Production wise, you have the approximations of a first demo but it at least sounds honest and obviously perfectible and not hidden though obscure clouds of digital tweaks. In all honesty, if it wasn’t for one particular track there wouldn’t be much to be said about Fiends at Feast’ first recording. Generic, heard about a thousand times before songs but this one track could very well be their own revelation. Let’s wait and see if they get enlightened in their next offering or if they just can’t grasp that “inspiration” again.
