Liste der Bands Thrash Black Carniwhöre (NOR) Rising Up

What do you get when you cross the styles of Aura Noir and Sarcofago over a city landfill? You get the trashy thrash sound of Carniwhore. The gist of their information sheet says that this young Norwegian duo have risen up from the gutters of Drammen, to entertain drunken metalheads(like me) with their shabby and filth ridden brand of thrash. That suits me just fine, because there are a lot of empty beer cans lying on the floor, by my desk. They also make it clear that this isn't going to be a spit and shine production. I like a lot of underproduced metal, it can sound killer, if it's done right.

The first track, Rising Up, thrashes morbidly at medium speed. The vocals of Necroglenn are exaggeratedly grim. The song yields a sinister, yet humorous mood. It displays a punk hook that sounds almost like something from Aura Noir, but played much slower and slovenly. The next song, Conceived In The Pits, starts off slowly with another slipshod punk riff. Then it suddenly explodes into a fast tempo and thrashes with a crudeness that reminds me of early Sarcofago or almost like early Krabathor(but not with nearly as good musicianship as that band). Then comes a melodic guitar solo, it breaks into some more fast paced thrash and then the song abruptly stops.

The third song, Morbid Crucifixion, thrashes at a neck breaking pace and has a rhythm that sounds something like the old Destruction song, Tormentor. But it doesn't show off any flashy guitar riffs that can rival those of Mike Sifringer. The last song, Addicted To Death, exhibits some impressive melodic tremolo picking. Then it breaks down into a fury of thrash licks. The unrefined intensity of this song reminds me of early Sarcofago. There are slower morbid breaks between the high octane thrash break downs, with a shredding rhythm that lilts something like the old Kreator classic song, Riot Of Violence.

This Ep will appeal to a wider array of people, than just drunks who are falling off of bar stools. Fans of 1980's underground thrash and death metal should also enjoy this music. I'd like to see this band take on some more intricate punk hooks, like Krabathor did with their first four albums, in the 1980's. They need to wow the fans with catchier and more skillful guitar playing. This was a good effort for their first EP. My biggest gripe is that it only clocks in at 11:36 minutes, that's barely enough time to slam two cans of beer.
