Kania is a young Melodic Death Metal Australian band born in September 2003 with a very good quality. With only one demo (“Prophecy” 2003) and a promo CD “Remorse” in 2004, both auto produced, the band shows a real talent, an ambition which fits them right and a great tendency for big European Melodic Death Metal bands such as Opeth or Dark Tranquillity. Bands they should easily equalize with their music’s great quality.
So, Swedish influences, but not only: the inspiration comes from deeper: while listening to them, it’s not like listening to old stuff replayed. To prove it, I don’t like too much Dark Tranquillity, but I really like Kania’s music. The instrumental technique is very good, musicians perfectly know how to play AND give feelings to the audience (it’s usually quite rare in Death Metal). Music is quite languorous, sad and energetic at the same time, dark and beautiful… Mixes which give a real pleasure ‘cause it’s very rare to hear to such good examples.
Guitars are played the best way, such as drums, which has also the best place it could in their music in general, song, mostly in the Black Metal way, sometimes takes changes with a big guttural voice.
And, what about the sound ?… there, they killed me : it’s excellent ! Being auto produced, I feared it could be a bit bad, but it’s really far from what I hoped for… moreover, I only heard to the official web site’s MP3s yet…
Melodies, mixing Heavy Metal and Death Metal are surprising (in a good way), really excellent, complex, but it’s easy to listen to them, even for people who don’t like Heavy Metal at all and Death Metal not much (that’s my case).
So I’ll say it ! I don’t fear (lol) : Kania reminds me the beginnings of Opeth, when they were still a Death/Doom Metal band. What a pleasure to find back this inspirations within a young band and most of all, a band so talented. Even the first demo showed a great skill. The progression between both albums is obvious, but they keep the same way, and that’s good !
With a bit more than years old on average, Kania’s members can make us dream : such a talent at this age, it can only progress, and I really wish they get their first album as fast as possible !
