More Than A Thousand is a relatively veteran Portuguese Metalcore band, that being said, a damn great one! Everything about them is intriguing. As we all know, Metalcore is made up of a shit load of young pukes trying to make a name for themselves, similar to the "talent" in the
Deathcore genre, but there are still a few true Metalcore bands out there, and quite frankly, I just came across these guys the other day.
To kick things off the thing that surprised me most, besides the fact that I just came to know them, is the fact that their vocalist has some of the best clean vocals you could ever come across. The entire genre is stacked with some alright bands, but when you get to their clean vocals, it just absolutely ruins them for me...
More Than A Thousand is a whole lot different. They're explosive, fast, intense, raw, incredibly emotional [similar to
Buried In Verona] and downright awesome. I felt like slapping myself to death after listening to this because of the sheer fact that I never knew anything about them before.
Next I suppose I'll talk about the guitars...
More Than A Thousand doesn't have the most amazingly composed guitar work, but still extremely talented. A lot of Metalcore bands are picking up on the two guitarist combo, and not a lot really pull it off, but seriously, the two guitarists in
More Than A Thousand can really keep a tempo, and maintain a beautiful melody throughout the entire record, so huge props to those guys.
Now for the drumming. A lot of the drumming throughout the majority of Metalcore sounds pretty similar, and this really is no exception, but still, the way he keeps the tempo going without making me yawn really impressed me. These guys are not very well known to say the least, and that brings me to my next point.
The recording quality in this album is absolutely amazing, now granted it is not their first record, but still, for being a pretty underground band, the quality of recording is impeccable.
As mentioned before, lyrically,
More Than A Thousand reminds me a lot of
Buried In Verona, via their raw emotion. You can feel his words, whether he screams them or lets out a beautiful songbird-like voice, you feel the emotion, negative or positive, you feel it.
That automatically makes for a decent record, and when you add in the rest of the attributes; Perfectly flowing tempo, beautiful melody, awe-inspiring vocals, it makes the entire album a sheer masterpiece. This is what true metalcore should sound like. 18/20
