Sabbath? We got it...
This band was probably one of the best Swedish Metal bands around at the time.
It's a bold statement I know, and there were a wealth of Swedish Metal bands around in 2000. But in my opinion Terra Firma were top class and surely an influence of current bands like Graveyard and Witchcraft...if either would admit to an influence outside the 70's. As is obvious when you hear this album, Terra Firma also take their bench-mark from classic Black Sabbath - but with their own twist.
When this CD came out I thought it was fantastic. My love of Sabbath up-dated and rejuvenated. What more could I want? 9 songs of groove-laden Sabbath infused Metal by a band that had real chemistry and talent. Their debut was very good...but this was great!
And 12 years later I am playing it again tonight and it sounds just as fresh and exciting as it did then!
So what makes this CD special? Okay, the riffs are quite something, original yet familiar, everything you could hope for in this genre, and the songs based around them are excellent. But add to that Christian Lindersson's vocals are MUCH better than anything he recorded in St. Vitus, Lord Vicar and especially Count Raven. The guy is absolutely spot on. Everything he does suits the song, guitar, drums and bass perfectly. And I think that's what makes this album what it is really. Everything compliments everything else (again, that's classic Sabbath!), the bass works outside the riff, giving the added dimension, with the drums driving the whole thing along...hell, listen to 'Threefivenine' - if you like that track, then you HAVE to hear the whole album!
This is one of the best doom/stoner CDs to be released in the last 20 years. Overlooked and forgotten, the band split up soon after. A genuine shame.
If you are a fan of this genre, you must check this album out. A real hidden gem.
