On A Journey To The Extremes Of The Metal World

To start with 'The Holy Guile' is a side project by 'The Crimson Amanda's' Saud Ahmed, a great band in itself. Guardians 2.0 EP was self-released in October last year.
The first thing that a listener will notice on this record is Saud Ahmed's extreme high screaming vocals, these vocals blew me off when i heard them for the first time and are also very rare enough to be heard. Not only are the highs but also the low growls are razor sharp perfect and i guess these are the attracting element for the tech metal hungry to hear this album.
Another great thing to be noticed is Greg Owens' drumming, the blend of blast beats and breakdowns is perfect and also the double bass used does not irritate the ears unlike other progressive metal bands.Also the drumming does not seem to give that somewhat excessive kind of feeling.
Donny Craig and George piper's great work on guitar is instantly noticeable right from the 'fap fap' and on 'cool story'.
Boston Carlisle shoulders the songs with the perfect bass riffs, and that being more noticeable on 'Kthxbye'.
Also to add a melodic element to the tracks and to make them more darker the band has incorporated keyboards in the songs, the keyboards are easily evident in the initial portion of 'uber douche' and 'cool story'.
The band has added a new ingredient to their technical songs and that is 'catchiness'. The songs on one sided being very complex from the music point of view and at the same time remaining catchy and technically melodious from the listeners end.

This record being an EP is limited only to a set of 4 songs that do not last more than 17 minutes.
'Fap Fap' being my personal favorite on this record, contains a perfect blend of all elements of technical music. The main attractor being that great guitar melody in the song with the bass giving it the perfect direction.This song mainly blasphemes and the lyrics are all antichrist.
'Uber Douche' gets a perfect dark start with Miles Pavone's hands on the keyboards. Another noticeable thing on this track is the use of pitch shifting vocals that are evident but very short lived. The keyboards are the ones that are evident and make this track more desirable.
'cool story' a song that again has keyboards shouldering it, but this time its not only the keyboards alone but the great guitar work makes this song more desirable.
'kthxbye' or OK THANKS BYE can be called as a true technical metal song on this album. but the downsides is that the guitar solo used on this song directly comes from a 'Cryptopsy' song.Inhale guttural growl has been incorporated in this song too.

To summarize the whole review process,the only thing that can be said is that 'Guardians 2.0' is a treat for the tech metal hungry people out there and this is a record that needs to be checked out, Because it comes from a genre of metal that is quickly vanishing into the dark and only with a very few Technical metal bands left as the current metal scene is shifting more towards the metalcore and post hardcore side.

Pros
* Insane screams.
* Great guitar work.
* Great drumming.
* Progressive elements.

Cons
* Antichrist lyrics may annoy some listeners.
* Cover art could have been made far more attractive.
