A story worthy of any mythos

Crog Buidhe, is a tale of an old warrior on a quest to save the lives, and the honor of his sons. Set to pounding drums, and brutal guitar riffs, Crog Buidhe is as heavy and chaotic as any could wish for. Nonstop brutality is the battle cry of this album (Actually more of a scream), and what a cry it is. Chaotic drum beats are an ever present force driving the music forward.

The guitar is also fast and heavy, complimenting the drums very well. The vocals are the most brutal part of this album, alternating between low death-grunts, and screams. The mixing is very good, all the instruments cut through well. The lyrics tell the tale very well, spinning a very "odyssian" epic, hinting more of Homer, than the ramblings of a metal-crazed lyricist from a black metal band.

While the story and instruments are well done, the vocals are a little bit to muddy. The story is a huge part of this album, and the vocals need to compliment it, and for them to do this you need to be able to hear what the lyrics are. There are many moments of clarity, but too often the vocals become nothing more than wailing. There is also a bit to much recycled sound, the drum beats are especially stale at times. However the guitar stays fresh throughout the album, making the drums sound even more stale. I look forward to seeing were this band goes in the future, as it is apparent they have a lot of talent.

As the band has only two members at the moment, I think that the biggest improvement Ankou Awaits could make is to bring in another member, preferably a drummer who can spend his time creating more diverse drums, freeing the other members to work on their own pieces.
