This is a traditional take on metal in the style of classic Iron Maiden. There’s an epic vibe that makes it impact upon you much in the same way as Maiden does. The album also contains some of the youthful excitement that made things like Killers such enjoyable ventures. However, the riffs don’t have quite the same amount of power, though it is present. The vocals are sung in Puerto Rican, which gives the album a slightly different flavour from your typically English sung metal music. They manage to swerve around the possible impediments of the language barrier with some enthralling musical moments. There’s just the right amount of passion to be found that would carry a band into truly enjoyable pastures.

The songs go through catchy verses to proceed to even more memorable verses in a decidedly accessible fashion. This album should particularly appeal to those seeking some they can easily appreciate and have fun with. Aura Azul are fairly approachable in style and have throwbacks to one of metal’s most appreciated outfits, so fans should find it easy to fit in with what’s being performed. The main riffs are uniform and one should be able to grasp them fully, but that doesn’t stop them from having large amount of passion take control. The final track here “El mago, elreino el imperio yel fin pt. 1” ends the material on a high note as there had been an increase in the amount of impact of each previous song.

The important thing is that the band love what they’re performing and show a good degree of class and style, even if the music isn’t incredibly innovative. The songs gallop along as the guitar work maintains an up-tempo style. Overall, this self-titled work is entertaining despite being slightly derivative and not necessarily as powerful as it could be, which might be partially due to the production values to be found. Still, Aura Azul come recommended to Maiden and metal fans in general.

Aura Azul comes from Puerto Rico with their debut and self titled album "Aura Azul".

Puerto Rico is known for having good metal performers like Dantesco,Cardinal Sin, Puya among many others, and following that line Aura Azul does not disappoints.

What we have here is a traditional heavy metal band with big melodic influences, if you like Iron Maiden,Lizzy Borden,Crimson Glory,King Diamond you should check Aura Azul out.

The album cover is simple but straight to the point, this is a heavy metal band.

All songs are in Spanish, so I had no idea about the lyrics, but they are based around society and religious conflicts .

The opening track "La copo de la ira" is a traditional maidenish melodic track with agressive riffs, followed by "Maestro de la Oscuridad" a melodic but fast track, the album consists of 11 songs which my favorites are "Maestro de la Oscuridad", "Gladiatores", "Angel vengador" and "Como rayo de un sol".

One of the high points of the album its the guitar passages and most of the vocals, Hommy and Moe deliver the goods while Edgar screams his way trough the songs.

The low point is the overall production, is not at a par with the big cash and more elaborated productions, but you can not review this album by those standards, "Aura Azul" is a true heavy metal album that fans of hidden gems and rare bands should have in their collections.

For the first band effort its a very good album, its not a thousands of dollars production, and it could have been better overall, but whats in here is enough to see a bright future for the band.
